When I was watching the FCP stream and watching the IRC at the same time, I found that people are more likely to point out problems in tracks.
But not often in the FT forum. If you have at least some decent skills in composing NES music, you will get replies like 'yes good' etc.
And thus there forms a gap between 'mediocre' chiptune artists and 'superb' chiptune artists...
For example if you take a look at [url=http://famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=6187]this track: Imagine if this gets submitted into FCP. It would definitely get panned because of instrument choices.
And yet, look at the feedback here.
So I propose that, if you do know that the artist is not a newbie, offer more constructive criticism. Even panning is acceptable as long as you don't call the work absolute trash.
Always encouraging the artist by saying 'it's good' is definitely not the right way to make him improve.
As someone who is frustrated as you are, I give criticism where I can. The problem is, I'm just as bad as you are with waveforms, hence, my preference for FM synthesis vs wavetable/sampled, heh.
But yes, I would much appreciate seeing this more around here.
