I finished Meltdown 2. I can't tell whether I procrastinated for too long or if this one was a pain. Either way, I'm happy with the results. I finally got it to sound how I wanted it to sound! yay

!! Oh, I just found something:
One of the first songs I ever attempted. For the time it seemed adequate, but personally, I now think it sounds like crap.

Anyways - you might want to have a basis with this one. Maybe not. Do with it whatever you want

I worked it off some notesheet - I sadly can't remember which one.

A rather controversial update today, featuring Moonsong (which I took a large gamble with) and everyone's favourite theme from the secret cave system you can find after the final boss...

...

...Seal Chamber.

Moonsong - Took a large gamble with this one in that I used the Triangle over the Pulse as a lead, but I think it turned out nicely. Unfortunately, this song suffers from 5-channels-itis, so that sucks.

Seal Chamber - More of a filler thing, I felt like getting it out of the way. Tried a new echo method here, similar to the ones used in Metroid.

Running Hell (WIP) - Help me make the intro a bit more deep pls, I dunno what to do with the triangle.

Oh, nice Moonsong
Yeah, taking the Triangle as the lead is always a jump'n'run in a minefield, but it fits this flute-like instrument.

I added a triangle track to the intro of Running Hell, maybe you can use this as a basis
I've gotta say it - splendit single-channel-echo on Pulse 2. And I also like where that WIP-Vibrato is going ^_^

I finished Running Hell! I'm rather pleased with how it came out - it doesn't suffer too much from NES-limitations-itis and the two halves of the song merge quite nicely.

I'm impressed! This sounds REALLY good for NES standarts. Great use of the Axy-effect.
And I still love that echo

... But I'm not sure if that loop is right ... probably it IS right, but I'm just mistaken

The other day I pulled open an older version of this soundtrack and was like "ehhh..." but I just gave the newest one a listen and it's really accurate! You've captured the mood of all the songs quite well and fit them into 2A03 without much trouble.

But I still have some problems with the Final Battle remix, so I thought I'd fix up some things.

Firstly, Pixel used a lot of echo in some of his songs, which this doesn't reflect that well. I went ahead and added some single channel echo to the lead.

I also filled out the baseline more by using S03 effects instead of mutes, so the triangle isn't as staccato. The effect is that the song should feel more full now.

Lastly, I threw in some echo in the lead starting at frame 05 and added fadeout to the baseline in frame 07. I'm not sure if either of those were in the original song but they sound nice to me.

I know what single channel echo is - I used it in the intro and Pulse 2 from frame 07 onwards :p

I've switched most of the bass in the Final Boss theme to S03s over blanks (but I've left a few as they sounded nicer as shorter notes), however, I'm not too keen on the echos on the lead. They sound blip-blop-y (if that's a thing), the kind of thing you'd expect to hear in an underwater level, and it doesn't generally sound nice against the 2a01 limitations of 2 pulse channels and 1 triangle. If this was a VRC7 or a Namco composition, I would consider an echo like that, but not for the NES.

The intro for Gestation is also in this because I'm lazy and I can't be bothered to take it out for this one attachment :p

I agree with MrKyurem - the echo on the Last Battle lead are just overdoing it. The lead just doesn't sound clean anymore when there's an echo.
But yeah, the new triangle bass sounds nice :D

... wait a sec ... MrKyurem and I agree on the Last Battle track? WHAT SOCERY IS THIS?!
-^O^- Just kidding, great work. I also like where you're going with Gestation, it sounds very interesting.

Hey, how about using DPCM as tone channel? 2a03 has not enough channels for some songs like Moonsong and Gestation. Imho.

Are there any melodical samples that match the waveforms used in Cave Story? I don't think so ...

Sunsoft-styled pitch or one for every semitone?
