After doing the Final Battle music from Cave Story, I found myself doing more Cave Story music. So, I've decided to try and cover as much of the soundtrack as possible.
Access - Not much to say about this track. I'd make the triangle quieter if I could but I'm not a DPCM wizard (apparently it can affect the volume of the triangle and noise channels). Suueeeeee.
Mimiga Village - Happy with how this one came out. Lead sounds like the one ingame and the drums are pretty good considering I only used 3 different tracks of drum. Not too happy with the pauses on frame 5, but I couldn't find anything that sounded better.
Gravity (WIP) - A work in progress. It's not finished, so I won't give any final opinions on it.
Balcony - Really like how this one came out. The start fits nicely, and when Pulse 2 changes it isn't too noticeable that the bass has weakened. I think I got the second part correct, too, so yay.
Final Battle - You've seen it before, it was on my previous thread. Added a small intro, but apart from that it's exactly the same.

Wow, I'm really impressed by your covers!
Sounds unbelievable authentic.
Access sounds as annoying as always, the cover is perfect ... seriously, hearing this song loop 3 or 4 times drives me crazy But you caught it for what it is. I like the triangle downpitch.
And for reducing the volume of the triangle, yeah you can put a "Zxx" in there which reduces the output volume of triangle (and noise!!), but you HAVE to make sure it has the same value your sample was playing with. Else, you're gonna get an ugly pop into your tune.
Mimiga Village is as peaceful and harmonic as I remember it. Just brings a Smile to my face n__n
Maybe, the lead sould be just one notch softer at times, but generally speaking it is really good.
The reason for the waveform being so accurate is that this is a pure 50% sqare wave - highly common in retro-esque chiptune.
Also, frame 00 row 1C - 1F and 3C - 3F, you might not want to cut the note, rather play it softer inbetween (B - 4 - B - 4 - B).
Gravity just sound astounding - this is a really complex tune and you just hit bulldeye. can't wait till it's finished!
I love the Balcony, it sounds spooky and mysterious, yet lonely. Great cover, I think it can't really inproved that much from your version with NES only. You only need good speakers for that deeeep triangle.
I already commented on your Last Battle 2a03 standalone. It's really good, but in the intro, the second drumbeat has to be 1/8 note earlyer (I think).
Also, there's ... *something* missing in frame 04. I don't quite know, I'll look into my cover later. Also, Pulse 1 @ frame 05, 06 and 07 as well as Pulse 2 right after that should rather decay slowly than be constantly sustained till a very sudden cut.
This will take a little bit of time, I'll do it as soon as I'm finished posting.
Plus - the loop-point "B01" is missing, I'll just add that in ^^
So, here's my (small) edit to yout great work. I'm just here nitpicking ^o^
By the way, good job keeping the instrument number so small!

I've edited your wizardry so that the triangle is a bit louder, as it was a bit too quiet. (without a pop - yay!)
I've changed most of Alex's suggestions except the Final Battle intro - it sounds like the drums are early because I edited the intro a bit.
To respond to Tromino, I'm not trying to imitate Cave Story as it currently is - rather, I'm trying to imitate it in a way that makes it sound like an NES game.
Also, new songs!
Gravity - I'm happy with how this came out - but there's something that bugs me, and I have literally no idea what it could be. I'm sure someone will be able to find what it is, so I won't have to suffer (i hope)
That One Spike - You know the one. Start the game, first cave, oh yeah, tutorial time and BAM! Looks like you can walk over that one spike and you fall directly into it and explode into a billion pieces. Nobody likes that spike. He got kicked out of high school and never bothered to get an education, he just sits there, ruining people's days. Seriously. And just to be even more of a pain, he sits himself directly next to a cliff where if you're running, you need to time that jump pixel-perfect or you're gonna just fall. Nobody likes him. Nobody.
All right, finally got around doing some - in my eyes - improvements on the final battle.
For some reason, I've grown quite some dislike against sudden note cuts. I use note release whenever I have the chiice. But since you're doing it "Blank" style, I had to pull out a few effects.
I hope you like my changes and if not, let me know why.
On a sidenote, best luck doing the rest of the soundtrack, I'll be watching your progress

While I agree that the Final Battle was a bit icky at said part, I feel that the changes you've made are a bit too complex for what I'm aiming for. NES games would (generally, from what I've seen/heard for you "smart" people) try and make things like volume changes mildly smooth, but not as smooth as yours - the main changes would be part of the instruments themselves. However, I have altered that section based on your edits.
New songs:
Eyes of Flame - I'm (genuinely) happy with how this one came out, I'm quite fond of Pulse 1 - it's extremely simple yet it works so well. Not too keen on the Triangle but that's probably because they change volume mildly as they get higher pitched.
Quiet - The cymbals on this one are a bit too short, but I'm trying not to create any more instruments than what I've got. Other then that, I'm pretty happy with this one. However, speaking of other instruments...
Charge - Quite possibly the biggest pain of a 64 row frame I've ever had to make. Still not entirely happy with it but I can't find a better solution to the problem. I had to make another instrument for this one to make a louder cymbal. It's an octave lower than the original, but my attempts to make it correct have so far ended in really poor sounding pieces. If anyone knows a way to fix it without using every effect ever and the blood of a unicorn, I'd appreciate you showing me where I messed up.
All right, I listened to it and again, very small nitpicks I'd like to make.
I think the biggest "odd" thing about Gravity is the weak bass. One might think replacing the Triangle bass with a Pulse one would improve it, but since Triangle has no volume-control and this song relies heavily on volume effects, this Idea has to be scrapped. Really sorry, but I think on 2a03 only, this is as good as it gets.
Eyes of flame - yep, here's the Pulse-bass Really great rendition, I love the drumbeat. One minor thing: When the E-3 fades out in frame 06 and 07 on Pulse 2, I think it won't really reach Zero. I'd leave it sustained on volume 2.
Quiet. Creepy. Lonely. Lost. Nothing more to say than -perfect-.
CHAARGE! Short and sweet - god, this gets me really pumped! I love how great the instruments sound on this one, but the militaristic drumbeat really gets me
Final battle - we can't quite seem to find a common base on this one, eh? I know it's your track and I don't want to keep nagging about it as if i was Navi, but I'd prefer not using note cuts at all for the long notes at the end, rather mae it a smooth 5-4-3-2-1-0 fade-out. The longer the note, the longer the fade-out.
And about that last part on Pulse 2 - in the original, this was a rather annoying (but in this case fitting) squeal if I recall that correctly. Your version has no vibrato at all. I think a 4F1 - effect would give it some spice ^_-
I can't edit anything right now because I really should go to bed already ...
Really great work, keep it up!

Eeeeehhhh ... now I edited something anyways ...
A few minor things like 4F1 in Last Battle and a higher ovtave in Charge.
Also, one stepp deeper fade-out in Charge. Looks like I'm a fade-out-fanatic

No such vibrato on the longer notes - however, I have paid attention to your other suggestions, and I've found a half-way line on the Final Battle track.
Small update today - but that's because I've started covering music from the org directly rather than sheet music and such, and I'm still getting used to OrgMaker:
Last Battle (Beta) - Why not do the beta tracks, I thought to myself? I'll probably do the ones with significant changes, so ones like this will be noticed while stuff like the Eyes of Flame Beta (which is just a few notes lower than the original) will be ignored. This one had a lot of potential but it was unfortunately scrapped. I've copied the drums from my version of the original Last Battle because they both use the same drums.
Last Cave (WIP) - Only got one frame done so far, but oh boy is this going to be irritating. Took me ages to find the volume balance for Pulse 2.
Wow; I've actually never heard of the beta songs. Interesting they still exist, but I'm not what you'd call a "fan" of the beta Last Battle. The final version just sounds more streamlined and does a better job at driving the pace forward.
Anyways - nice job on the cover so far!
And yes - Last Cave will be irritating as fuck. Good luck with that. You're now fighting an angry titan with a toothpick. ^_-

I'm assuming you're referring to the Last Battle Beta - in which case, it's finished! There's nothing more to it then that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16JWfXC_ojo
Also, finished stuff!
Balrog's Theme: Suffers a great deal from only-two-pulse-channels-itis. Took a bit of inspiration from the 3DS version of the theme here, but I'm not sure if it paid off.
Last Cave: Ughghghhghhghghghghghghghghghghghghghghghghhhh. Now that's over, I'm actually quite happy with this. Sure, the Triangle on the second loop could be better if I could use volume on the Triangle, but over all it all fits together rather nicely. I really like the mildly-swingy drumbeat.
Oh, I get it - it was never composed any further. Okay.
Balrog - OH YEAH!
I really like how you did the heavy vibrato and - 2a03 only - made the second, "evil" half sound pretty heavy! Respect.
Last Cave - Clusterfuck redefined. If you're naughty, you'll go to hell and probably have to track this song over and over again for all eternity.
The result is impressing - astounding work with the volume. The echoes sound great.
What's next - Secret Last Cave? °v°

Secret Last Cave = Last Cave, they're both just different renditions of the original Last Cave. As far as I'm aware there's no real difference other than instruments.
I was going to be working on Meltdown 2, but I'm not certain that it'll come out how I want it to. Halp me pls
