Let's quote jrlepage from an earlier thread.

will be removed in future versions
I think you'd be shooting yourself in the foot. This will only spawn more complaints and lead to people creating forks of the program and then reporting bugs and issues for unsupported builds of Famitracker, thus increasing your troubles...

I think it's time to accept the fact that people don't necessarily want to put themselves through the misery of enduring the original hardware's flaw in order to compose their music. There's no reason to do so, anyway; as long as you know it'll sound terrible on a real N163, I think that's enough. Plus, you've done a great job putting loads of emphasis on the fact the real N163 sounds terrible in the manual, wiki and forum posts already - I think everyone has understood that at this stage.
Please enable a way to disable the 15khz screech in the n163 to make it more acessible to people with sensitive ears.
Other than that, this new version is good.

When I tried the beta I couldn't figure out what the "Volume Mask" option does. Plus, what can I do by using drag and drop in the frame editor? I still can't get it.

Anyways, I'll try this new version later, since there's no way for me to put it in my computer right now.

I wish you didn't flag files created by the new version of famitracker to not be allowed to open in older versions of the program. You seem really determined to not allow people to choose to disable the hiss caused by proper emulation of the n163.

Text import/export is a really great feature. Comment box is nice too.

That is completely unrelated to that matter. New versions of the file format is necessary to prevent old versions of the program with missing features to play new files incorrectly, in this case new DPCM settings.

Yeah I forgot to add that to the changelog.

Pretty handy new features and bugfixes. (Not sure if it's time to report this already, but 0.4.1 had a problem with exported portamentos, at least for the triangle, I have no idea if it's still there though)

To moviemovies1: I think you shouldn't even attempt this anymore...I'd probably go back to 0.3.9 beta 3 or whatever the best version of FT was with no N163 multiplexer, or just never use 7-8 channels at all (although during the creation of the one 8-channel cover I did I didn't really mind the screech at all, I've heard much worse sounds in my life)

On IRC I suggested that the best compromise to the N163 issue seems to be to make it optional, but on by default so that people know about it (and because hey, it's how the hardware works).

Then I was told that that's the way it already was before this release.

I am thoroughly baffled. :/

That seems like the most sensible solution to me.

Isn't it killable through registry?

I don't remember how to do it, though...

Simple remedy = Open and write N163 FTMs in 0.4.1, and use 0.4.2 for text export, command line export, NSF export, AND EVERY OTHER FTM EVER.

That won't work if someone else makes their FTM in 0.4.2 though...
