Hey guys

Just joined up earlier tonight. I've heard some really cool stuff from here so far, and I thought I'd post something myself. I'm really just getting into Famitracker, but I'm having a lot of fun with it. Last week, I tried to replicate Bubble Man's theme from Mega Man 2 just for practice. Let me know what you think.

Thanks!

I'm with nicetas_c on that; how long have you used FamiTracker before joining this forum? It's pretty good!

Thanks guys!

I've been looking to get into chiptuning for a while. I used to mess around with Fruity Loops years ago (now FLstudio), and more recently tried getting the 8 bit effect to work using VST plugins, but it didn't sound authentic enough.

I found out about Famitracker a few months ago and made a simple loop the day I installed it (attached), but haven't gotten the chance to really play with it until about 2 weeks ago...and its a blast! Really interesting stuff. I've got a few projects in mind that I'm excited to start whenever I get the time, so I'll keep you guys posted.

Thanks again

That explains why you're so good at it!

And don't worry about it; forums exist for a reason.

Hey that's pretty good. I put up a version of Bubble Man's stage about a year and a half ago (it's also located on the famitracker wiki page). Since I got version 3.5 beta a few months ago I have been updating some of the files and Bubble man was one of those I tried to clean up. I will post the newest one here. Your version is very good for a first time.

Far, far superior to anything I made when first starting out. Nicely done.

Tallboyy: I think it is not THAT bad if I try to point out all mistakes in your version, right?
1) Wrong volume envelopes (even you use the volume column). The correct envelope for instrument 02 should be:
0 (repeat 13 by 17 times) (repeat 12 by 18 times) (repeat 11 by 18 times) (repeat 10 by 18 times) ...
for all notes in square 1, with all volumes on the channel volume column removed.
2) 4xys are a no-no in covers. That surely is just me, but most of us here should be able to do a pitch envelope with NSFplay.
Plus, what is that 4xy combo in pattern 04? It is wrong. MM2 never does this. All vibratos in square 1 use this envelope:
| 3 3 -3 -3 -3 -3 3 3
3) The correct volume envelope for instrument 03 should be:
0 8 1 1 0
instead of 13 6 0.
4) Because of the volume envelope you have created, 225s should come with PCEs.
5) Redundant V02s are found in square 1 pattern 01/02. In fact, those rows should be:
C-4 02 - 210 P90
Also there are never S03s in the real version.

I am sure that there are more mistakes, but I am doing a perfect-pxx version. That version shall list the rest of the flaws.

Before doing Bubble Man I might attach this forgotten cover as well.

I think for comment 5 with the redundant V02's you are talking about rows 02/03 correct? If so it only seems redundant because I used the Sxx function there. If you take away the V02 in the pattern it switches back to the default (V00). I was really just trying to test out the new beta version and begin to use the new functions. I was excited to have a better sounding 4xx so I thought I would try my hand at it as opposed to creating a whole new instrument. As for the other stuff I just went by ear pretty much. It sounded good to me so I left it at that. Thanks for the criticism and by all means make it as accurate as you see fit for your stuff. Mine was really just for personal enjoyment.
