Thanks for the comments, guys! I didn't necessarily expect it to sound like Ninja Gaiden (or, in another's opinion elsewhere, a Sunsoft song), I just kind of went with it. Can definitely pick out the similarities now that I'm done with the song, though!
Really, it's just preference. I'm not particularly used to using the instrument editor so I just go ahead and use the effect slots, since I know what I'm doing more-so in that area.
I always wonder why sometimes people use all 4 effect slots...
Wait a second, many effects here are unnecessary, so SQ1 and SQ2 can be shrunk down to 3 columns.
E.g.:
1) SQ2, Pattern 00/0C, Row 00, fx4, P80
2) SQ2, Pattern 04/05, Row 20, fx3, A07
3) Triangle, Pattern 05, Row 18/19, note cut
4) SQ1, Pattern 06, Row 00, fx1/fx4, V02/400
5) SQ1, Pattern 00, Row 02, fx3, A00
But yeah, I did see that Triflake is becoming more and more effect-abusive. Also, I forgot to say that the song gets really repetitive started from row 10.
Anyway, has anyone already seen a piece of work with the DPCM channel using 3 columns? I have done one.
Usually whenever I get repetitive with the effects, it's in the instances where I'd normally start a new frame and press play without having to worry about going to an earlier frame to listen to the desired effect (or I'm copying+pasting).
In short: I'm lazy.
Anyway, my effect-abusive-ness doesn't really bother me so long as I get the desired sound. Size constraints and keeping within them may be a valuable asset to some users, but I am not one of them. The criticism is appreciated anyways!
