(I hope I'm posting this in the right section...)

Well, I usually just make covers by ear, but this one I just can't seem to get right.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9ArmyQmVNQ

There seems to be a thousand notes playing in the base section, and I can't really hear what they are at all... Or maybe it's a guitar on top of the bass?... Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do?

Here's what I have so far, I've only begun to plop notes down, but I want to figure out that bass section:

EDIT: Woops, I forgot to make it FamiTracker 0.3.0 compatible... Hopefully it is now.

Sorry for the late response. Sadly, it's not 0.3.0 compatible.

Apparently, you would need to recreate the song in 0.3.0 as the 0.3.5 compatible FTM file only works with 0.3.5.

Anyways, it sounds like the bass is using at least one channel (if not two minimum). It also sounds like it's just a bunch of 16th notes playing as the bass. If you're using VRC6, I'd try to use the sawtooth & one of the VRC6 squares for the bass, keeping all the notes packed up close together.

I just have to get 0.3.5 up & running & see what I can try to do.

Ah thanks for the reply. I was afraid about it still being only beta compatible... Sorry about that.

Anyway, I just can't figure out how to hear what those notes are. There's so many and it's blocked out by all the other sound effects. Is there any way to block out certain frequencies to the point where I can hear the bass line better?...

EDIT: I tried it myself... The bass line is really close to the bass drum frequency-wise so it's a bit hard to hear over that... I'll try this later, gotta get to school right now.

Perhaps you could try using the Zxx effects on the DPCM & increasing the duty/noise level of the bass line's instrument?

Those are only suggestions, though.

Hm? I'm not having trouble composing the song, I'm just having trouble hearing the notes. Maybe I can find a Midi version of the song somewhere...

Never mind. I found out why.

You're using the triangle at very low octaves; I decided to create a new instrument (with constant volume & a duty of 2) for use as a bass line in square channel 2 to accompany the triangle.

Check out the attachment; I'd call it a slight improvement, but there's still much more that can be done (& I don't even remember why I blurted that stuff about the Zxx effect, either).

Now, what I personally recommend is that, if you need the second square, try using the triangle at one octave higher than what you currently have it set to.

I think I might actually be getting somewhere. I found a video of a Midi someone made: http://nicosound.anyap.info/sound/sm3505241 and I'm just trying to copy what I see on the screen :P.

Here's what I have so far:

Techemporium, I don't think you understand what he is asking. He is trying to figure out how the song goes (particularly the bassline).

Kurobit, I had a listen, and it sounds pretty muddled. I'm going to try to slow it down and tweak the EQ to see if I can figure it out.

edit: Doommaster, I don't think you understand either. Why is this so hard? Are you guys reading carefully? =P

If you want the right envelopes for a song, NSFPlay is the way to go to get the voices exactly right.

Touhou 11 is never an NES game.
If we also take a look at the waveform, you will never get the instrument exactly right.

In Edison (part of FL studio), there's a time-stretch function that slows down without changing pitch. When you slow it down, it's easier to get the right notes (but it's still really hard for those bass notes in this song).

Here's what I have...it's not 100%, but I'm getting frustrated with this.

I wonder if anyone is reading my post other than you XD. But that's really good o_o. Did you see the new version I did though? (Right above your first post)

If I did it right, I can see why I wasn't able to figure it out by ear =_=...

Oh, I missed your new version. That sounds pretty close, too, but not perfect. The note cuts make it sound like something is missing.

Can anyone figure out if that person uploaded their midi of that song (From the link I posted earlier, or here if you have a nico nico account: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm3505241)? I can't read Japanese, so I can't even figure out where the video description is :P.

Thanks for that; I thought he was asking about increasing the volume of the bass channels. :P

Sorry, guys. At least I gave it a shot.

Anyways, I'm in the process of downloading what I think is the right thing you're looking for. I'll verify it first (to see if it's the right tune) & I'll attach it up here.

If only I was of better help than this.

EDIT: The files I downloaded weren't correct. But I'll still keep looking for it. If anyone finds it, please post it.
