I guess I'll join the FDS testing and release my own test; "Hello" on the FDS channel.

Not exactly anything amazing, but still fun to do.

EDIT: Updated the file slightly.

EDIT: Changed the topics name so I wouldn't be so repetitive :P.

hehe, this is an area i haven't explored yet, simply because it seems insanely difficult to do (and especially do well.) and i mean look, you have a billion instruments just for that short thing. i wonder if there could be some more elegant way of handling FDS waves in famitracker though. maybe setting them up on a separate screen somewhere, and then recalling them using Vxx commands... having up to 255 Vxx commands would be more reasonable and managable than 255 FDS instruments :D though both situations do seem insane.

anyway, this way, just like duty of a 2a03 instrument can be empty, so could an FDS instrument's wave setting... which could then be controlled by Vxx instead if one so chooses. would help hugely with redundant instruments. i remember having lots of duplicate instruments in the past before Vxx was implemented.

cool though. i want to hear more tunes using this technique. the MCK ones always intrigued me.

Ah well I never really explained how I did it. It wasn't actually as difficult as it seemed (although anything longer than that would have been a real pain :P).

I used the Windows built-in text to speech program and set the speed to highest (to reduce sound length) and recorded it in Audacity.
From there, I zoomed into the recorded sound and copied each individual section into a separate instrument. I just drew the waveforms in, nothing complex.
Then I just set all the instruments in a row and hoped for the best :P.

I think being able to store waves inside the FDS instrument would help tremendously, I really like the idea of being able to call them up with the Vxx command. (And I mean this for normal use of the FDS chip, not just trying to make it talk :P)

Also, what is "MCK"?

Heh that's crazy, the FDS channel reminds me a lot of the Game Boy's digital channel.. (only it has 16 levels of volume, as opposed to Game Boy's 4)

absolutely, yeah. it'd be useful functionality to have regardless of what you're doing. it sucks when you just want to change one characteristic of a sound and you find the only way to do it is make a whole new instrument and duplicate all the settings. FM settings need effect column control as well. would be awesome~
