I'm not new to composition, but I learned how to use Famitracker last night. I put this song together today after a little burst of inspiration at the piano. Check it out, I'd love to get some feedback. :D

Interesting... That's pretty neat. The only real thing I can say is you really don't need to improve anything in it (as far as I can see). If you want to use the DPCM channel to play drum beat samples alongside your cymbal crashes (which I feel isn't necessary,) you can do that.

And it's good to see musically talented people who can learn to use a program quickly.

Thanks a lot Tech! I don't think I could have hoped for a more positive response. I've yet to learn about the DPCM channel too in-depth...ly...? Anyhow, I need to look into that a bit more. With this song I would agree, I can't see it as being anymore than excessive, but it's a needed skill nonetheless. ;3

This is very nicely done. You're definitely picking up Famitracker faster than I was able to.

Hey, Arrow. It does sound kind of like Castlevania! I really liked the composition of the song.
I felt you could have maybe added decay at the end of your notes. Or single channel echo. And it could have sounded more like castlevania had you used DPCM for the kick, and the konami snare on the noise channel. http://www.famitracker.shoodot.net/forum/attachments/4647/castlevania.ftm

Well damn, I'm a little torn now. That file definitely helps in emulating the accuracy, but listening to it I feel like it sounds a lot less full and lacks some of the heart I get by keeping my configuration. Maybe I'll just make two versions or something, but right now I'm on the fence.

PS: Aquarius is one of my favorite tracks from CV of all time. <3

Just a random question, because I can't seem to find the answer anywhere in the wiki or that nice PDF tutorial: How do I make one of those note stop symbols? It looks like this:

There should be a key in your keyboard that makes it...

Also: I find it weird that you didn't choose to compose for the VRC6, seeing as Castlevania games use it...

I also don't know how to do note stops; all I've been doing was sending the channel's volume down to 0 & bringing it back to F when I need to play a new sequence.

Note stops (or cuts) can be set to any key you want, granted it's not a note key

On the FamiTracker window, go to File->Configuration, locate the "Keys" section, and input any key you want on the "Note Cut" textbox. Now anytime you hit the key on Edit mode, you'll produce a note cut.

Ah, thanks! I'll set that up right now. It makes a lot more sense than having a whole instrument made just to mute my triangle wave.

As for not using the other chip, I honestly just hadn't thought it through that thoroughly. I just started writing. :D
