Somewhere between 50% and 62.5% done, I think. Depends on how deep I decide to go with each song.
Anyways, the thought ran past my head that "bruh, you never completed a soundtrack, or even half of one". That changes now.
I've decided that, of all the soundtracks I've wanted to cover, the original Metroid would be the one. So...I've been working pretty hard...somewhat.
Here are the current thoughts on the songs:
1. Title Screen: I don't think I'll go further with this one. I like the simplicity and the tranquility. I like the original theme (and Zero Mission's) and how they progress, but I like this one the way it is.
2. File Select: Basic. It's Metroid. Nothing more can be said. Might go a bit further, but...might not have to.
3. Samus Appearance: Again, it's Metroid. No need to go further into it.
4. Brinstar: Yes, I worked on...this would unofficially be my 5th Brinstar cover...and it's now my favorite one thus far. Decided to go with a combination of Zero Mission and Smash 64 on this one.
5. Elevator/Item Room: I wonder what this is supposed to be from? It's kind of obvious when you hear it.
6. Item Fanfare: You listen to this and tell me it's not Metroid.
7. Norfair: Didn't start, don't know how I should start this one, to be honest.
8. Kraid's Lair: Don't give me that look. We all started with Danooct1's Tutorial. This is...pretty different, though. Might tweak it later, but I enjoy it as is.
9. Kraid's Battle: Didn't start, but I want a Zero Mission lean on this one.
10. Ridley's Lair: Oh God...this song will be the end of me before I even start Tourian. Don't know if I want to expand and clean up, or keep as is and maintain the "8-bit Hell" the original had.
11. Ridley's Battle: In love with this one, to be honest. Song was surprisingly simple for what it is, despite the beat being...a bit devious.
12. Tourian: Haven't started yet, and this is going to be probably my biggest inner debate on how I want it done. I'm somewhere between Super Metroid and Zero Mission (here I go with that name drop again).
13. Mother Brain: Like Ridley's Lair, I don't know if I want to keep it the same or expand on it. All I did was add 4 notes to each of the VRC6 channels. Lazy? Sure. Menacing? Somehow, yes. Conflicted with this one.
14. Escape: Another one I didn't start, but I'm sure on how I want this done.
15. Credits: That should be simple...when I start it.
16. Bonus: Didn't start, won't even hint at what it will be.
Enjoy what's done. I plan on working on it for at least an hour every day until it's done.
Also kinda noticed that this forum will soon shut down--should I go ahead and just post this to the new one?

pretty good. I didn't hear anything about the forum shutting down, you may just be refering to my retirement from posting ftms on this forum in favor of the hertzdevil forums which accept 0cc-only ftms which are becoming more my teritory.
PaulMannIV: Post this to the new forums too because this one is becoming less active (and will eventuallly shut down too). I doubt this will receive much attention here.
Anyway, while you did a pretty good job on this, I think the mixing could be improved. Sometimes the bass is just too loud and it drowns the rest of the channels, and also the leads tend to be a bit quiet sometimes.
kingcandy, I thought you had left? :P

I personally don't find the mixing THAT bad, maybe the exception being Brinstar at times, and if the bass is too much"..my fault. I always preferred a harder bass regardless, but everyone is a bit different. This is only first draft stuff...maybe except Ridley battle, I actually enjoy the finished product.
Later, in both forums, I will update a couple songs with some minor changes to help with the mixing. What works in other variations doesn't always work with these.
Is it also too much to ask for personal favorites and least favorites to know what to keep with and what to avoid in the future? I already see either Ridley's Lair or Mother Brain as the least, so I'll look forward to tweaking those
