Was messing around with a totally unrelated project and started a new FTM to check stuff out with this ... seems like you could do it with lots of detuning or a pitch table change.

Oh weird, I totally didn't notice what you were doing this Ox0 commands, detuning the pitches, and also the instrument that releases the periodic mode occasionally to keep the noise cycling. Very interesting.

Edit: Ohhhh, now I understand. You put the engine up to 400hz and it relies on that.

I didn't actually know about engine speed until I saw this but now I'm fascinated. I found I can make a pretty cool distorted-sounding pulse instrument with a duty 0 2 2 loop. Might have to try making a track in 400hz...

Heh, I just finished something similar to this, where the noise serves as the lead. I didn't think to use the 000 command or to change the engine speed, I just detuned all of the other channels to tune with the noise.

I wrote another song at 400hz awhile ago called FDX - it's in the sample tracks that come with Famitracker. I do a lot of square/noise distortion in that.

In the same fashion you can mess with the FDS' wavetable channel so the modulation speed is high enough to make a completely different kind of sound, a sound more akin to a typical FM bass instrument.
The huge downside is that you have to set the adequate speed for each note.

There's also that thing I made long, long ago ago, in which I made the lead sound like a sax...

Oh, I've heard that song, it's bonkers. Didn't realize it was 400hz, I just assumed most of the crazy was in the FDS.
