I actually finished this in January, and uploaded it to my YouTube channel last month. Since I first talked about it here, though, I think it would be appropriate to post the finished product.

I love you, marry me...

[Oh wait, this is a public forum. Gotta behave!]

This isn't perfect but it's pretty good! The only thing I think you should fix is the clashing notes. There's a great amount of those and it makes the song sound quite muddy in those places, so try playing around with Pxx effects and see if that fixes the problem! Try placing Pxx effects on the VRC6 Pulse 1 channel in frames 06-08, for example.

You always need a bit of detune when working when these kind of melodies, seeing that the same notes repeat across some channels, whether on different octaves or not. This is what mostly causes clashing, so if you see this is happening, try detuning some channels!

In all seriousness, thank you! I'll definitely keep this in mind next time I make a song like this.

This is fantastic![color=#333333]
I almost wrote fantastick, which, if it would exist, would be something completely different... Or well, it does exist, but under a completely different name...
This is pretty much spot on in every aspect except two; volume control and clashing notes, which you might need to work on a bit on this song. Even in a song like this, 4 square channels and one sawtooth channel attacking your ears at the same time on full volume is a bit annoying, especially when they're clashing.[color=#333333]https://www.google.se/search?q=fanta+lipsmacker&hl=sv&rlz=1I7GGNI_svSE522&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=DPUiVYvmDsnkasasgYAB&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=643
Other than that, this is pretty much perfect, I would say!

I agree; here's a quick edit I made with somewhat reduced volume, mostly in the sawtooth and NES square channels. I'm no expert, but hopefully this is a bit easier on the ears
Anyways, great track overall, really enjoying it!

Think I commented on this before when you shared the unfinished version. I like how it's really fast; works well for this music. A few things:

1) I think the volume balancing edit above is good, but unfortunately aside from frames 06 and 08 it becomes a bit difficult to hear the extremely prominent bassline. The notes are low volume and cut off because the same channels are used for the harmony chords; coupled with the percussive effects in the triangle and DPCM, the lower register gets kinda mushed up (especially because all the tympani hits are the same b-flat-ish pitch! I don't know how to DPCM, but if I could I'd definitely match the tympani pitch to the appropriate chords).

2) Various small errors that are audible but don't disturb the overall piece too much, particularly in the bassline which occasionally results in a few wrong harmonies. The most apparent instances are probably in frames 07/09 where you have b-flat instead of g minor 7 tonality, as well as frame 0D where there's a missing chord change and also the structure drops out in the second half (which is fine, but it does make me a little sad because I quite like the harmonic content in the original).

Attached .ftm where I attempt to illustrate some of this stuff and fix what I could hear. Though, lisetning through it again the differences are likely subtle enough to go unnoticed (except for the last four frames where I added in the conspicuously missing double-time component of the bassline to the empty channel and whipped up the outtro).

And this is where I go "You have empty channels. Put them to use. It could be an extra harmony. It could be an echo. Just do...SOMETHING with them instead of having them empty. Get creative."

But other than the one thing that bugs me the most with using Expansion Chips, this is definitely a fun cover.

1) I was initially going to use different samples for the DPCM to fix this issue, but I couldn't find anywhere that I could download differently pitched samples, so I left it as is. I'll certainly keep this in mind for the next time I make something like this, though!

2) Yeah, listening to it again, I agree that the bassline in frames 07 and 09 was incorrect, and I think it sounds a bit more accurate now. And also, props for including the outro. Funny story, the reason I didn't include it properly was because for the life of me I couldn't remember it. Having to do these things from memory most of the time doesn't make it very easy for me. *stares at Akumajo Densetsu some more*

Agreed though, besides volume control, this is pretty neat, though it's worth mentioning I don't know the original well.
