I've noticed that except for my first post where I was just being stupid, I'm not really getting too many comments on my posts. Is this because I'm a new user and I have a different, less eye-catching icon? Is it the way I've been titling my threads? Is it because I'm doing only 2A03 and most of you guys seem to be into VRC6/7?

Or am I not doing anything wrong and just being paranoid?

I guess what I'm really asking is: what are the best ways to get the critiques and criticism that I'm looking for? (since I'm new here I'm looking to improve, which is hard if nobody says anything)

I get this problem too, actually. You're not alone =P

As far as I can tell, you're not doing anything wrong at all. People just like to comment on stuff that's sensational. Ever been at a scene of an accident and notice all the people watching?

I find this a hard question to answer, since I haven't found an answer myself. What I find helpful, if not a lot of people have responded, is mentioning it. People will start to reply.

I have noticed that new people tend to get a bit more replies in their threads, but as poodlecock said, people mostly comment on stuff that's sensational or that draws their attention the most.

Another trend I've noticed is that general threads (i.e. the ones where you post all your stuff) don't get many replies (or none at all) for some reason. Check this out for more information.

Anyway, I wouldn't really question why this happens because it wildly varies. Just post your stuff and specify you need advice and maybe more people will give it to you.

This thread's in the wrong section. It should be under FamiTracker Talk.

You're definitely not alone. Bug report threads tend to draw attention, Show Off Your Work threads generally get some attention, general talk ... depends.

(And, speaking of a depends, one of the last times I posted a Show Off Your Work piece, it still hasn't gotten any replies yet ...)

I second this.

As for OP's question, it happens; people tend to reply only to what they may think is interesting (not necessarily because they want to help others). It really comes down to the way you advertise yourself in your first post (especially your very first post in the forum).

For example, your reflecting about your first forum post being stupid (when you say "I've noticed that except for my first post where I was just being stupid" ) is a bad sign for a beginner in any community. This is because your first post is seen by some as a sign of what to expect from you in future posts (which I know for a fact that it isn't, if you choose to improve on your postings as well as on your musical skills).

Another bad sign is when people post topics that seem to put themselves down (there was a member who used to do this a lot, aside from putting no effort into his music; he was shunned by the majority of regulars here, to the point that he just stopped posting altogether). Another did the exact opposite, too (a deliberate troll poster who'd put no effort into making proper music & proceeded to brag that his lack of talent will be a "new trend" ). Needless to say that this user got banned over his own stupidity.

Just remember one thing, though; this is a hobby. You're ultimately the judge of what works you've done poorly, done well or need help on; if you need help, just post something along the lines of "I'm trying to achieve a certain kind of mood with my song, but I've got writer's block & need a little push" (a.k.a.: start a collaboration thread). It actually saved me once.

Well, my first post was an a cappella video. Nothing 8-bit whatsoever, literally just a link (done incorrectly) to a YouTube video. So it really was a stupid first post, I'm not being down on myself. But I now realize that not everybody has seen that post or will necassarily remember it, so I can see your point.

As far as posting in the wrong place, I wanted responses from the people from this particular section of the forums, and I know some people (like me) probably never even go anywhere else.
Err...I guess that doesn't change that I still broke the rules, so I apologize.

But yeah thanks for clearing that up, everybody. I didn't ask for a critique or a response or anything in most of my posts, so people obviously concluded that I just wanted to put this out there for people to see.

@admin This thread can be locked, since it served its purpose. And that'll avoid it coming back
