No. You should use patterns. Actually, most of time you don't have to use that long patterns, 32-64 is much more common length. Multi-channel frame list model together with short patterns allows to reuse patterns for some repeative parts of the song, like bassline or drums.

... if you write repetitive music of course for example with me there's usually something slightly different about each pattern, so i just keep the "change all" button checked regardless and copy+paste wherever i do repeat something. you're less limited that way.

also, 128 rows is acceptable i think. it helps when you're tracking at speed 2 or 3 and have your events spaced out (more room is always helpful.) that's how it's been for a song i'm working on, and if i had used 64 instead, i'd have 90 frames by now instead of 45 :D

256 is probably only necessary at speed 1, which not many people will bother with. i have seen an incredible ftm at this speed though. it has its perks.

At speed 1? Where?

I found it. Somebody made a song using 3 triangle waves and it was speed one. He/She (I forgot who it was) said that the song used is known on youtube as McRoll'd.

Kurobit's '3 Triangles Was Her' does have speed set as one, but it has a F03 throughout the whole cover, and it cancels the speed setting.

So no, technically it is not the one Dave said.

EDIT: Kurobit's post was made after Dave's.
