To be honest, I've only just recently started using famitracker. I, like many others, used 8bitdanooct1's tutorial. Right after I covered Kraid's Lair from the tutorial I did the MOTHER victory theme. While I do like covering NES music, I want to do more modern songs. More particularly this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqTYpJ1Y918
So how would I go about doing it without the channels? Just by ear? And what other songs could I do that could help me get better at famitracker? Thanks!

What I would personally recommend is getting a midi file. Try and find a midi file for whatever song you wanna cover, and open it up with an editor of choice (I prefer FL studio, you don't have to buy it for midi capabilities) and then use the notes you see there to help you in covering the song. You'll have to adapt it for channels (e.g. chords might become arps, etc) but that's not hard. By ear is EXTREMELY hard, at least for me, in my experience. But good luck, and Welcome to the forums! I'm looking forward to seeing your work.

Yea you'd have to do something like that by ear. I doubt there are any midi files for it, since Mother 4 is a fan project.

And also, yea doing jazzy stuff by ear is quite hard and takes a lot of time and experience to get comfy with. I'd recommend looking at some SNES tunes, since those are a bit more modern and complex. You also have the option of solo'ing the channels and covering them that way.

Btw, thanks for sharing that Mother 4 tune! I had no idea this fan project was going on, but I'm particularly impressed with what that composer(Shane Mesa) has managed to do.

Being led to all of this has inspired me in more ways than I can express, haha

Cool! So just get started with some SNES songs and then move onto that right?
