Here's a number of songs made with VRC7 to emulate the orchestra and rock styles of some of my favorite classic RPGs - musically, Shining Force and Langrisser II were predominate inspirations. It's also loosely based on an RPG concept I've been working on. I gave it up a while ago because creativity and motivation were dropping off. I'd like to give it another attempt, but I figured I'd first look for some advice on my previous stuff so I can do a better job with newer ones.

Since there's a bunch of tracks on the ftm, some notes to save you time if you're interested in listening:
3, 6, 9, and 11 are probably the best ones if you just want a taste. I totally understand if no one has time to look through 20+ tracks of varying quality/completeness.
Everything past 13 is WIP (except 20).
Everything past 20 is blank (except 25).
Module comments are really just for myself, or to be included if it ever gets released, but they might of interest to someone; they explain context, themes, inspirations, etc.

Interesting OST you have going here. I enjoyed track 3 a lot; very Warsong-like.

Few things, though.

[li]Rule of thumb with VRC7: no instrument should be set to higher than volume C.[/li][li]I would use noise/DPCM percussion only, instead of shifting between that and VRC7. Lowering the volumes will help with this, and after you'll have the custom slot always available for unique lead instruments.[/li][li]Some of these tracks are super-high pitched! #9 and end of #11 especially. My ears! Should try to find a way around this.[/li]

Hey, thanks for the feedback.
Yeah, lowering the VRC7 stuff would probably mean I could do DPCM without it getting drowned out, so that makes sense.
High-pitched never occurred to me as a problem, I'd be interested to see what others think of that. I see what you mean, though. If everything was a bit quieter it might not need to be so high to stick out of the mix.

Just out of curiosity, what's the idea behind the volume "rule of thumb"? I've heard that before, but I don't understand if it's because it clashes, or if it drowns out the 2a03 tracks, or if it's just plain too loud. If it's one of the latter two some hardware mixing could theoretically solve the problem without changing the songs themselves.

No problem.

It's partly because it drowns out the 2A03, and partly because the actual VRC7 chip will clip if the volumes are too loud. This has been emulated as of FT v0.4.5:
Improved VRC7 emulation, clipping will occur when audio is too loud
Didn't notice much clipping throughout your OST, though. Which is good, because the mixer in Configuration can't be used to lessen VRC7 clipping. (It'll play exactly the same way, just quieter/louder.)
