This would be my first attempt at actually doing something on the tracker other than... well... listening to songs.

Made for a competition on another forum I visit, this is a cover of the Super Smash Brothers Brawl theme.

It's quite rough and unpolished right now, but I like to think it's promising.

Comments and constructive criticism would be more than welcome, (especially because I'd love to have a nice spot on the competition, ohohohoho).

Wow, very impressive for your first work! You seem to understand almost all the basic concepts of the tracker, and how to make things sound great!

My one suggestion for you is to try to hold back on using two notes at the same time (ex. End of Square 1 and 2 on frame 04). Even if one is an octave up, you still get this very harsh sound, which isn't pleasant to the ear in a song like this. I would go ahead and try to find a harmony you can use there.

Anyhow, stellar work. I can't wait to see what else you can come up with!

i think it's okay to double notes in octaves that way since you'll get a different timbre. you just need to be careful about volume levels. which honestly applies to any sustained notes on the square channels without volume envelopes.

i concur though, pretty well made and a solid first attempt.

Thanks for the comments!

Yeah, I was already contemplating changing some of the double notes for a harmony, especially in a few sections where the original has backing singers on a different tune (I pretty much concentrated on the main soprano and the main tenor, but the choir IS there).

I'd also love to find a better sample for the DPCM cymbals, the one I'm using sounds quite on the ugly side.
