This is a song I started this week and think it sounds great so far, but I know it can still use some work and wanna know how exactly I can go about improving it, so whether it's a specific effect command or a theme to add in, or an instrument tweak (I know next-to-nothing about how to successfully use instrument settings effectively) I'm all ears.

Hey, this is a pretty cool track you wrote! I switched to VRC6, modified the tempo (I recommend avoid messing with Tempo and keep it at 150 whenever possible), and modified some of the instruments with new ones. I also re-did the volume mixing, so hopefully all the parts you wrote stick out more. (I actually used P81 to detune some instruments to avoid a slight phasing effect from playing the same pitch on 2+ channels simultaneously)

One of the bigger things I did was change all your note cuts to =, which triggers a note release. This means that instead of abruptly cutting off the note, it fades to a fraction of the original volume it was playing at, to simulate an echo. I recommend simulating echo instead of cutting off a note entirely.

I moved the song to a clean project file, so it's easier to modify the patterns before telling FamiTracker to merge duplicate patterns. Perhaps consider writing the percussion throughout the song, as well as the channels that suddenly stop playing later on.

Hope this helps!

holy cow, the edits made were marvelous. I've only been scratching away at a few surfaces of FT, and am just about to begin with teaching myself VRC6 and VRC7 controls, and have gotten myself more into the use of effects and instrument change, but so far I have been content. and you have shown me that I need to keep improving, and work my way through the ceiling. I thank you. and I also ask, may I use your edited rendition of my piece as is?

So as might have been noticed, the song I already uploaded(#71) was 1 out of a larger group that includes approximately 100 or so songs, or starts to songs made by me. because I'd rather not post them all on separate threads, to avoid sifting, I am going to try and post them in this thread when they are particularly good at my current capability, and perhaps open another thread for all of the older ones I had made a considerable time ago. I could use any help with fixing them musically, and even more so would be grateful to anyone who can help show me what controls to change for some of FT's higher functions in order to improve my song quality as a whole. Thanks in advance to those who accept the request.
