Hello people of the FamiTracker forum!

I've been making an 8-bit Metroidvania game using Construct 2 since August last year (2014) and I'm getting closer and closer to finishing it. Currently the only things that remain is the enemy AI and sprites, map and maybe some super basic story. I've done about 90% of the player mechanics and finished the controls, UI fully works and there's a basic menu and game over screen.

If anyone is interested in doing the music for it, please let me know.
It'd be awesome if it was reminiscent of the original NES/Famicom Metroid, since my game is extremely heavily influenced by it.

For anyone curious to what my game looks like, here's an outdated test build I linked to a friend to help me find bugs, there's already quite a few more features to the game since then.

https://googledrive.com/host/0B0gW1AkX_7NySFVqY21aT0pkaFE/index.html

Just keep in mind, the enemies and most of the items are PLACEHOLDERS, so nobody needs to remind me of that or think that this is close to the finished product.

Controls are as follows:
Z - Shoot
Shift + Z - Shoot Missile
X - Jump
Space - Morph Ball
Arrow Keys are for movement, down is crouching and up is aiming up.

Alternatively, if you're not interested but know somebody who is let me know. Anyone who contributes automatically gets credited.

I hope everyone here is friendly

I'd be willing to do it. I've actually designed an entire soundtrack using Famitracker before. You can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99UDIZUGfbU

A random theme that I made. I think it lasts somewhere between 2-3 minutes without looping. If you can give me a tracklist of the songs that you wish me to make, I could do the whole thing.
You'll need an NSF player to play this file, but there's a download for one right here on the site!

I did something really stupid: I forgot my password on my other account. That and this site doesn't seem to have a recovery option.

Anyway,
Yes I'm still looking for people to make music, sorry I haven't replied to the initial posts, I wasn't getting any emails that posts were made.

I downloaded your .nfs file and a player but I can't see to get it working. If you can provide me with a .wav or something I can open in FamiTracker itself I can give it a listen.

PM me with your email if you're still interested and I'll send you a reply.

Your Retocon soundtrack is really awesome! Sounds really action packed as well.

I forgot to mention, the game is going to be release to PC (Linux and Mac).

@ Xiphos2000 I'm going to send you a PM with my email.

I kept trying to upload the .wav files in multiple ways, but apparently the files were too big, meaning I have to upload the .ftm file, and you have to open it and create the .wav files yourself. Don't worry, though - if you don't already have it, Famitracker is free to download from this site!

Hey Xiphos2000,

Just listening to the track now in FamiTracker (already had it, used it to listen to the Metroid Soundtrack).

The title song is just soul-shatteringly beautiful, But it kind of turns into a different song at sheet "08". But definitely hit the nail on the head with a diamond hammer for everything before it. Great feeling.

The main menu song feels like it could be better used for one of the levels in the game. Great feeling to the song, at the end it feels like it could be used for one of the end-game areas, but the start feels like it would be better used for the beginning. It's definitely interesting.

"Game Start", to be completely honest, it sounds a lot like something out of a Mega-Man game. It's very good but not suited that much to the game.

"Item Get" sounds a lot better if I turn "Pulse 2" off. It just seems out of place.

For "Level theme"; Are there multiple songs in this? The tune that starts at sheet "0F" and ends at sheet "16" sounds pretty great. Same for the tune at 1A-1F and 01-02 and 04-05 and 08-09. Sheet "0F" to sheet "16" is probably some of the best chiptune I've heard!!!

"Game Over": Beautiful soundtrack with a seamless loop, works great and feels just right. It feels like one long song instead of one playing on a loop, which is just amazing craftsmanship, kudos. Has the weird effect of the longer I play it the more I like it. Even though I know it's 2 sheets on a loop, still feels like one long, great song.

The first two sheets in Battle Theme and sheets "0C" to "OF" are really good and could fit the game for one of the area soundtracks if made into a full soundtrack. The rest of Battle Theme doesn't sound right for the game, sorry.

Not sure what it is exactly, but you can hear it best on "Pulse 2" during song #7 or on "Item Get", it kind of kills the song and the song sounds better if I turn it off to be honest. Sorry :\

Be sure to email me future updates, since I check it every day.

As for the game itself, here's an updated but slightly outdated release.

The only thing that's different in that demo and the current version is that I fixed the collision boxes for the shots and something to do with either the fall blocks or the charge beam.

Anyway, changes:
New Menu
Save Slots
Charge Beam
Fall Blocks
Speedbooster Blocks
Speedbooster upgrade
Save Station

Could be more but I forgot since I'm fairly busy right now.

Although here's a list of all the current features in the game:

Main Menu
Options Menu
Controls Menu
Game Over Screen
Fully Functional in-game HUD - Energy Tank Indicator - Missile Count Indicator
Modular Weapon system Upgradable via items
Beam Weapon Type - Short Beam - Long Beam - Ice Beam - Wave Beam - Charge Beam
Missile Weapon Type - Normal
Morph Ball Mode
Morph Ball Bomb Weapon System - Normal
Energy Tanks
High Jump
Varia Suit
High Jump - Morph Ball Jump

4 enemy types will functional AI: Hopper, Crawler, Skree, Floater
Save Files - 3
Save Station

Ammo Limits on Missiles - Increasable using items
Seamless room transitions
Wall Jumping
Destroyable Blocks - Fall Blocks (Crumble when you stand on them) - Speedbooster Blocks (Destroyed by running into them at supersonic speeds)

Naw, there is only one song in the Level theme. It just changes like that because while I felt that it was good up to that point, that it didn't really fit the mood very well. So that's why I included that.

In "item get" I could change that pulse 2 channel to be an echo of pusle 1, which is something I did very often in the Level theme. Would that work?

And that "battle theme" is a boss theme that I made up. You know, kinda like Kraid's theme in Super Metroid, except less orchestra-y.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback! I'll try to get this to be as accurate as possible.

And one more thing - listen to the triangle wave on it's own. I used a special trick to create a sort of "kick" for the percussion, because while I like using DPCM (Included another project I am currently working on for an example) I feel that in cases like this, using the triangle wave and the noise wave make it sound a bit more polished and professional.

I also tried to make the themes as long as possible - at least 2 minutes for each theme (Some of them are shorter than that, I think) but what I know for a fact is that the Level Theme reaches up to almost 4 minutes! There's a soundtrack called Summer Carnival '92 RECCA which does the same thing, and that soundtrack has a 1-hour soundtrack when each song is looped twice. And it only has 16 songs, I believe - this'll be a very long soundtrack when I'm done! I think RECCA has some songs that fit this game as well, so I'll try to listen to that as well while composing.

I could also do sound effects, if you like. Since here sound channels don't cut out when certain sounds play like in real NES games, I could make high-quality sound effects that use multiple sound channels. I could include some of them in the .ftm if you want.

Just listening to Level Theme on my sennheiser headphones, the great parts I mentioned are even more awesome! :D It sounds really great on my ears, don't know how else to say it. (Even went as far as saying "It's like my headphones are spitting out orgasms" when I tried describing it to a friend, seriously that good).

You should definitely expand upon sheets 0F to 15 into it's own song/theme. That "braaa" bass at the beginning of the sheet is just jaw-dropping. Same for the tunes at 1A-1F and 01-02 and 04-05 and 08-09. Seriously, it's just amazing.

3 hours later (now) listening to the Summer Carnival '92 RECCA soundtrack, it actually does have some songs that indeed would fit this game. Definitely an interesting soundtrack. You should definitely listen to the Metroid II: Return of Samus soundtrack, and Metroid: Zero Mission (ZM probably just to see roughly what the save and item acquisition should sound like). Make several different item fanfares, the more the better since we'll have more stuff to analyse and see what works.

The kick on triangle sounds really good.

I don't think length really matters as long as they sound fitting to the game, the Game Over track you made was 2 sheets and it's downright amazing.

As for sound effects, think you could make several for the speedbooster and charge beam? It's currently silent so I'm wondering how you picture it sounding.
And maybe some more for the morph ball morphing sound, not sure if it needs to be replaced with something.

A new, new demo should be up by Monday or Tuesday hopefully. So I'll post a link here and PM (or email) you with the new link and such.

Thanks for doing the music, it's really great stuff!
