So, last time we saw a "friendly competition" thread in the forums with a interesting challenge. No every one understood well the concept but we got a nice tune out of it. So I thought to myself it would be a nice idea to do it again.

This is different from the "HI" Challenge, this is more of a Improvisation Challenge. I give you the "Base", you improvise over it. The tune is a Jazz tune in the VCR7 expansion chip, at least the base of it. That is what you work with.

Rules:

- Cant change the progression (01/01/02/03/01/04/05/06 in the frames for the old version) (00/00/01/02/00/03/04/05 in the new version)
*you will have to (eventualy) extend the whole progression if you want to do your melody longer. So you Copy/Paste it all again, the whole progression.
- You can change the drums(noise/dpcm)/BPMs(or speed/tempo)/volume control/key (the original key is in C, but you can transpose it into G or what ever key you´d like) (and Im not sure about this one, but I guess you can do a key change midway-through, but all within the chords given )
- When composing the your "part", think that you´re the trumpet and I´m the piano, I give you the base, you give me the melody. Because trumpets cant do two different notes at the same time, you do a 1 line melody. In the channel of preference you want to do it, you compose it. You can do the echo effect in double channel, but that's as far it should go (unless I'm forgetting a similar case).
- (I thought of this one a bit: If someone decides to go all in and does a 20 min improv. Oh man...) For the sake of the listener, the song "should" be less than 10 min, but if someone wants to go for it, GO FOR IT!.
- You can use the 2A03 Channels or the VCR7 Channel for composing
- You chose the instrument you like.

I guess that I've cover all (I guess), so if someone mentions another rule that should go in there and sounds reasonable, it can be add it.

I´d like to see what cool melodies you can get out of this progression.

GL and HF guys.

The second attachment is one that I just did so that you´d have an idea... PS: There´s a little reference in there (wink*9)

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

- Added the volume regulation request for every channel.
- The first rule was modified from (01/02/03/01/04/05/06) to (01/01/02/03/01/04/05/06). The first frame "should" be blank, because it sets the mood on the song. And when the song already started you can put what ever you´d like.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

- The official track for the base has been "fixed" (enhanced). The version is now Jax´s, track on the attachments.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I added two "rules":
- You can use the 2A03 Channels or the VCR7 Channel for composing
- You chose the instrument you like.

I like the concept of this, so I gave it a go.

I think I may have gotten a little bit too creative halfway through though.

Also, I think you should update the "vrc7.ftm" so that it sets the volume of each piano channel to B at the start. That way when I play back on a frame it doesn't blast the pianos in my ear.

I really wanted to do this, but yeah, it would sound much nicer with the swing...so I fixed it.
vrc7_base_jaxedit contains the original base on track 1 and my edited base on track 2. Edited base has each beat split up into 6, so in addition to swung eighth notes and triplets there's space for more complex rhythms as well.
vrc7_jaxmelody is my melody added to the edited base. It's pretty short, just one time through, but only because I wanted to get this out fast so more people could use it. I might do a longer one later.

Oh, man. You always lending a hand. The edit you´ve done is now the official because its better. (I´ll still keep the old version up). And hell, you had me singing the last frames of your lil´ melody. Very nice indeed.

Well I guess that fixes the "swing" problem.

Well I just did something

The key D# and the tempo increases midway through and gets gets slower at the end of the song.

I feel like adding 2 more frames at the beginning as an intro would work better, since we're going for swing, and typically solos don't start at tge very beginning of the piece.

Plus I thnk this song is just better with one.

How about no one make anything for the first to frames, and solo starts at 02?

Also is it alright if we can change the patches? I don't like being restrained to a preset for a lead

[size=1][color=#4b4b4b] I like echo and 2 channels dedicated to bass is wasteful

Well I remember saying something like it in the first edit. And well, because your right, the solo doesn't start right away, Is ok to add the two first "clean" frames. Those don't repeat the second time.

Yeah, Im sorry if I didn't make myself clear enough. The Trumpet was just a concept for the "just one melody line". So yes you can change your instrument to the one you like. I don't know how to feel about being able to change it once the song already started. I guess is ok. I would fall in to the "Its another player playing another instrument" context.

Well the idea behind was the Double-Octave Bass pianist do. But then again, Echo is permited.

Oh god that post is broken please fix it.

Also sorry about the octave bass but honestly in this case I don't think it did much of anything.
