HI!
I'm just starting to learn FamiTracker, it's a powerful piece of sofware

This is the first tutorial I'm reading about FamiTracker:
[url=]http://orandze.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Make-8-Bit-Music#

In the video about effects:
[url=]http://youtu.be/v_eHQiB4v-c

There is something I need help. In the video, it can be seen in the satus bar some hints about the effects being edited. For example we can read in the status bar "2XX - Slide down, XX = speed" or "4XY - Vibrato, x = speed, y = depth".

I Googled about this but I couldn't find any clue about it.
I also saw some other comments asking the same question in the video's comments, so I came here to ask you experts

How can I enable this effects layout in FamiTracker status bar??

I'm playing around with version 0.4.5.
THANKS!

i didn't cover effects in depth in that tutorial as it was meant as a quick way to get people up to speed with the program. that was almost 5 years ago, though, and I'm making a new tutorial that should be much more in depth.

until then, the wiki is a great source of information.

Thanks for the reply. Your tutorial is still useful for learning the fundamentals =)
Thanks for the link, I read it yesterday and I did some tests.

However my question is still unanswered...
How did you managed to show in the status bar the effects layout? These hints are very useful when learning, and I wouldn't have to switch constantly to my browser to read the Wiki, this feature is useful.

How can I achieve this?
Or it was a feature in that old version? If so tell me.

Thanks again!

The effects was displayed in the status bar in earlier versions, but then disappeared (and got forgotten). It's not available in the recent versions.

But, this was requested again recently so it will be back in the next release.

Can we maybe have them as tooltips? I.e. hover the mouse cursor over an effect column (with an entry) and a tooltip will pop up explaining what the effect is.

That sounds like it would get distracting quickly, as the tooltip would show up whenever you'd put your mouse to rest, and it would then be (increasingly unnecessarily) covering other pattern data.

Yeah, it would. I think a good way to have it would be either status bar, or have a menu similar to the FX menu in Renoise, where you can have a reference, even maybe clicking on it to place it in the column. That may be a bit to much.

Note: VortexTracker does this as well.

No, a tooltip would only appear when you hover the mouse over an actual effect command issued in the pattern data. Simply resting the mouse in empty space in the effect column would have no effect (and it wouldn't have an effect while playing a song in follow mode anyway, since everything is constantly scrolling).

I recovered the Effect hint function from the source code of old version, it was buried in the FamiTracker graveyard, and I revived it on the newest 0.4.6 by editing the program and personally compiles.

For those who can't wait too long for this function, I uploaded an altered 0.4.6 which can display effect hint on status bar, like it used to be. As it is an unofficial build, I don't guarantee the stability.
