Hey FamiTracker forum. I was working on a track a few hours ago when my computer did its routine volume cutoff, much to my dismay. I reset it as I normally do and watch a few videos on YouTube. After about an hour or so, I decide to work on my song, again. I open up FamiTracker, look for the file, and.... it's gone. Nowhere to be seen. I look through all my folders, search my hard drive, but no luck. Am I going crazy??? I've been working on the song for quite a while, now; there's no way it could've been in my head! I look for proof, and I do find it. I remember saving 3 PCM samples into a folder while making the song, and they were indeed still there. So now I know that I don't have to check myself into a mental hospital, at least. Luckily, I wasn't too far into the song, so it won't be very difficult to recover my progress... but still. Did my file really just magically wipe itself from existence? Is there anyway to find this phantom ftm? 2spooky...

EDIT: I actually found the file lurking somewhere in one of the hidden local folders. How did it end up all the way in there? I definitely saved it in my FT Songs folder, just like I do with all of my tracks.

Did you save it as "Untitled.ftm"? Or maybe you saved it in the folder the Famirtacker save dialogue was last focused on and now it ended up in an unexpected folder. If you remember the name (or part of if), try punching those commands into the Windows CMD:

cd \
dir /a /b /s | find /i "<Part of the name of your file>"

Good luck ^^

What is this volume cutoff you speak of? Some sort of parental control program, or a computer glitch?

I think some sort of glitch. At certain times, my computer's sound will just suddenly mute itself. I open up the mixer and no sound is made. It goes back to normal when I reset the computer, though. Must be some sort of bug with the sound drivers or something.

Did you... save it? I mean, if you just restarted your computer without saving it then yeah, it's gone

Yeah, I definitely saved it. Multiple times, at that.
