So it's been a year since I joined. Guess I haven't really done much around here... nonetheless, I hope I can continue to pop in every now and then and contribute.

Anyhow, here's some La-Mulana. Wanted to make "Grand History" but it was too hard with VRC6 so I gave up and did this one instead. Even though this track's kinda stupid, Giant's Mausoleum probably still has my favorite field and boss music from the game.

Nice work This was one of my favorite boss themes from La Mulana (in both versions) and this cover does not disappoint. (I can totally see La Mulana getting its entire soundtrack VRC6'ed....)

Yeah, I can definitely see a lot of the soundtrack fitting on VRC6. After all, it's intended to imitate the MSX sound generator with the Konami SSC expansion (I presume? The OSV is labeled "SSCC" for a reason...), which is philosophically similar if not equivalent.

actually, a more correct option would be to use n163 with 5 channels, as that's basically what the scc was

More or less. I think the SSC uses signed 8-bit waveforms instead of unsigned 4-bit, so you get much more resolution. Also the SSC isn't plagued with the aliasing issued that affect the N163.

I record (some) NSFs on hardware. Feel free to [url=http://www.famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=3633]request a hardware render.

Oh, hmm. Serves me right for not knowing anything about the N163; it's really similar. Though I don't think the SCC is as flexible with its wavetable memory (32 bytes allocated to each of 4 waves), and also apparently its sample rate is the MSX clock rate straight up. Which is kinda silly.

Guess I should learn N163 if I want to do more La-Mulana. Get the waveforms sounding all similar and such.
