It doesn't have to be the letter L, I guess. Just any unused letter.
This effect would be nearly identical to the Sxx effect, but instead of a cutoff, it would be a release. On multiple occasions, I've found myself wanting a delayed release command, and this would be exactly it. If the instrument has no release in its volume macro, it would function exactly the same as the Sxx effect.
And, on a side note, I exported a module using the DPCM release function and only the first release worked properly. All the other releases didn't register for some reason.

Maybe jsr can incorporate his code into the main version
You can already delay a note release using the Gxx command, but of course this only works on a later row than the start of the note.

There has been similar requests, it's on the todo list.
