This is my latest song. I tried to make a song with only octave changes and this is the result. I think it came out quite nice. Hope you all like it and please comment!

Your samples are nice and chunky and maybe the concept would work as an intro but dude making songs with octaves is ill advised. Computer game music has some of the most catchy melodies around and as the sounds available aren't the best in terms of fidelity, composers are forced to write high quality, catchy songs. I find listening to the same note shifting octaves a little irritating.

You missed the whole point of the song... I'm not aiming for videogame based music. I'm trying to do something original...

second. maybe it would work if it had heaps more attention to dynamics, rhythms and sound design, so that there was something more to listen to, for instance playing around more with sound layering, major contrasts between sections, etc. making it more of a sound design piece if you will. but as it stands it seems contrived and gimmicky, without being all too impressive. the ends don't justify the means in this instance, IMO.

Btw... did any of you listen to the whole thing or just the intro? Because it seems like that. It goes all bendy and crazy after a while. I hate impatient people...

Same story all over again.

Weirdbananas, two tips. You are free to listen it or skip it, of course.

First, before trying to do something original, it could be good idea to master something not so original. I.e., it's better to first make something completely unoriginal and simple, but make it good.

Second, the music should speak for itself. If it is really good, you will don't have to defend it with arguments like above. If you have to, it could be good idea to improve the music instead.

I'm sorry Shiru but... The thing is the better parts of my songs usually comes in the end. People who listen tend to only listen to the beginning. What I'm just saying is that it's irritating with all the people who just doesn't give it a chance... Doing something original I know is hard, but I've heard some music that sounds kind of like this. I hope you don't think I'm totally worthless at this... cause then I'll just stop doing it.

You're going to fail a lot, don't let it discourage you. That being said, one thing about music is it's subjective. People may like it, some may not. Whether or not you want to please the entire crowd is up to you but know it can't really be done.

Having said that, It's hard to create a song with only an octave, you're limiting yourself musically. It can work, but it's better if say, you limited yourself to octaves changing the notes only when you change the key of the song itself. There was an Animaniacs song that actually alternated between two specific notes throughout the song. It wasn't terrible, but it was very annoying to listen to (you know, kind of like side-chained compressors fucking with the volume of an instrument :P). Of course, this is all my opinion.

Anyway don't give up, just keep trackin'. If anything it's an experiment that you tried.

My official opinion on your song in this thread is that it's a little boring, but it's only because of how you limited youreslf.

Ok, thanks tssf. I guess I can consider this an experiment. Chiptuning is limited in itself I guess. You don't need another thing to hinder you XD. I still thought some parts of this one sounded quite cool...

No prob. I think you should spend more time actually experimenting on technique and/or effects. Maybe work on delays and how you can work to use every spare frame to your advantage. I did that with my Game Boy Color work actually, and I was actually able to make some pretty neat things. There was one project (Infinity) that I worked on remaking Eric Hache's soundtrack but I improved it because I utilized every spare bit of frame available to create echos and other little effects to enhance the experience. Those are a couple examples.

But don't stop making music.

Hmm that's more a chorusing effect than it is an echo, CracKman. Still though, a neat effect.

I took it upon myself to try my own little echo trick. This gives you a feedback of about 4 echos, plus i threw some triangle fades in there for good measure. :P
