So I've finished two FamiTracker tunes so far. I started out working with LSDJ, but I really like this software and hope to make a lot more tunes with it!
The two tunes I've made so far:
- [url=https://soundcloud.com/roccow/xyce-quelle-surprise-vrc6-remix]A remix of xyce's Quelle Surprise (.FTM [url=https://db.tt/nNN4c2VV]here)
- An original song called [url=https://soundcloud.com/roccow/lady-bad-luck-vrc6]Lady Bad Luck (.FTM [url=https://db.tt/4JwJER6w]here)
On the xyce remix, I experimented with combining the Sawtooth and Triangle channels to create a good bassline, though listening to it now, it sounds like a terrible compresser effect or something. So won't be doing that again, probably.
The Lady Bad Luck song features a lot of playing around with sounds, mostly trying to replicate the feeling of FearOfDark's work. Controlling the volume levels to make it sound good was especially difficult on this track. I still feel like some sounds clash to hard, making for unnintentional muddy sounds, especially with the arps on the VRC6 channels. Besides that, the song was also a way to practice a bit more variety in composition, since I mostly produce electronic dance inspired tunes with a very standard, drop-heavy composition.
I would love to hear you guys' thoughts on these tracks and receive some tips on how to make future songs better! Thanks in advance :D
First off - it would be VERY helpful if you could upload the FTM right here. Would be much more conveniant.
But from what I can tell from the sound of the track itself, "Quelle Surprise" sounds delightful and light-hearted. Also, I don't immediately hear any glaring technical issues and the arps sound pretty sweet. About that "terrible compressor effect" - try and add some fine pitch to the tracks (P7F and/or P81) to make them differentiated from each other. Or - if it happens to work that way - set them to different octaves. Like the Saw plays notes on Oct 1 and the Tri plays Oct 3 (which will translate to Oct 2 trough the double period length).
Your original song "Lady Bad Luck" has just about the same style. It's just that the VRC6 Saw is pretty under-Utilized.
One point I fully appove are the volume controls - everything sounds well-rounded on both tracks.
All in all, really solid and well done tracks

Whoops, good point! I've edited the post so it shows the FTM files and links directly to them Thank you very much for your reply! Very helpful stuff! Much appreciated :D
Awesome tracks, I love how upbeat they are. I feel like if they were on a really hard level of a game they would help keep the player in good spirits even though they had died 63 times so far!
