Hey everyone! I'm new to the forums, and this is my first real cover. I'm pretty happy with it, but comments/criticism/suggestions are always welcome!

Hello and welcome to the Famitracker Forum

Not bad for a first time. Everything seems to play the right notes, but the execution is rather simple. Of coure, you'll have to work on that, but that's self-explanatory. Either way - it's way better than what I first posted around here :D

A few tips:
- You'll need a little more diversity and variety on the noise channel. Right now, everything's just "Ptsch ptsch ptschhhhh", so maybe take a deeper look at the functions the noise channel has to offer
- PLEASE name your instruments. Fifty bazillion "New Instruments" make it painful to try and help you improving your skills and techniques.
- Why didn't you use the Saw channel except for one small part? It's a pretty powerful channel, so I don't get why you don't use it for a majority of the track. Maybe just mirror the Triangle bass at a lower volume (so it won't overshadow anything)
- Generally: Volume balancing. Everything's pretty loud, try and limit yourself or every single channel will end up shouting for attention. The key to creating complex music is having a few loud and more soft channels. If everything is on volume 15, you'll just turn you PC speakers down. If you'll add more detail, you have to spread it across the volume range.
- Look at other's FTMs. A good starting point is 8BitDanooct (look him up on YouTube). He has already covered this song about perfectly
- Keep working. It might look like you're not capable enough to keep up with the rest of the forum, but being bad at something is the first step of becoming great at something

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to ask something. Where did you get the notes? Did you cover it by ear? Did you have a MIDI? Did you take them from another guy's FTM? It would be nice to know the source of your cover

Have a nice day
- Alex

So i downloaded all of danooct's ftms and looked through all of them. Pretty damn skippy. Based on all the stuff i looked at, i revised the song and totally stole danooct's dpcm samples. haha what can i say? they sound good.

As for the notes, i looked at a couple of ftms on youtube and a bunch of guitar tabs. One or two parts in there are just added by me cause i thought it sounded nice. The timing of most of the notes was just done by ear.

Sounds good! The timpani is pretty overpowering at frame 06, but t hat's about my only complaint.

Yeah, i agree. It was either that or make the rest of the song louder and not be able to hear the regular drum parts.

The revision is quite improved from your original post from a technical standpoint. Sounds a lot more like Danooct1's version; I would take a stance against the style of the percussion because I'm too used to hearing the quasi-orchestral original, but that's neither here nor there.

One thing I'll point out is the high "trumpet" part throughout. Its presence was sorely missed in your initial version, but in adding it the main melody in frame 07 is all but lost (only the doubling part in 2A03 Pulse 2 remains after the trumpet comes in, and it's very hard to hear because it's an octave lower).
I think the interplay between the trumpet and the lead there is one of the coolest parts of this track, so I'd try to find a way to make that happen.

What if I just set the duty cycle to 1 and kick it up an octave? Is this more what you're looking for? I think that's about as close as I can get to having both parts.
