I've just started using Famitracker and am experiencing problems with my laptop. I'm using a eeepc 1000 with is a 1.6 atom with a gig of ram. I'm sure I've got enough juice to run Famitracker properly but I get choking on the second square wave channel during playback; after a little while the instrument gives out and doesn't play anymore.
My track doesn't seem too intensive after looking at other people's compositions and I've messed around with the sample buffer and tried optimizing my system as much as possible. I did however notice that everybody inserts 'dash' symbols in the tracker window after phrases and effects. How do I insert these in my own pieces? I obtained the screen grab from Motoi Sakuraba's 'fighting of the spirit' (hope you don't mind! It's very good!) and ringed the symbol in question. I presume this dash acts as a full stop and prevents a constant stream of numbers from clogging up playback?
I've also included a section of the composition I'm working on. Can anyone spot anything that I'm doing wrong?
Note cut can't help with sound buffering issue at all. Only increase of sound buffer length could help, if the drivers are fine. I'm tried to run FamiTracker on Celeron 1.73 under Vista, it worked fine, but I had to increase the buffer length (can't remember exact value, >100ms for sure).
regarding the second channel 'choking', the problem isn't with your laptop, hardware or drivers. you've used a volume slide down (A0x), but you haven't reset it afterwards - you need an A00 probably at the start of the second frame. naturally you'd need to do the same with your vibrato commands. in famitracker most effects are toggled rather than held (which i actually prefer a whole lot.)
