So, I'm back from Basic Training and no longer a member of the Navy!
I've been back for a little while now and have put together a couple of .ftms since, they are attached.
They're all in varying styles and etc., I don't have much else to say other than that I'd like to hear any criticism you guys can muster up; I've gone rusty after three months of no tracking.
The first one is really cool. I mean it does a ton of things that are beyond me to comment on, but the most interesting thing right away was that cool percussion. What a neat thing. Cool of this to show up, with my recent interest is tracks that have 7 or 8 as a speed, still sounding decently fast.
worthnothing : you seemed to use the same noise instrument. Crazy arps going on in both tracks so far. That bit with the triangle's rising 4xy effect was totally rad, again, what a cool idea.
Snow angels : a pleasant intro that sort of blows up into complicated sounding arps. It's pretty. Aw, and that slowdown at the very end was cool~
Wub : What the hell is even going on in the 2a03 pulses man. That weird buzzy, metallic sound out of a blank instrument is
I appreciate the positivity there, glad you liked them.
The "glitchiness" in the wub module can be contributed to the overclocking of it; I'm not entirely sure how it works out on a technical level, but practically, as far as I understand, it forces the effects to operate at a much higher frequency (the frequency being directly to the speed at which the emulator is being overclocked), thus giving more dramatic effects to the sound.
Again, I've got no idea how technically correct that is, as I have no real understanding of how Famitracker runs; I'm purely a layman, and a poor one at that. There are others here who know--I am not one of them.
Either way, I spent my entire today at home forcing out the attached .ftm in an effort to stay productive. The result is something indeed forced, but with enough corrections in it to be at least partially worthy of some publication. That being said, it's got its issues, but it's not bad.
Also, on an unrelated note, where'd the Doodle thread go? The only information I could find on its vanishing were that it degraded enough to warrant deletion. I'm curious; I like hearing people's doodles.
The doodle thread ceases to exist due to [url=http://famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=5970&pid=60299#60299]oversaturation of low quality material.
[size=1][color=#383838]And it didn't really help that the last few posts were a bunch of clutter. Heheheh.
Well, I went to the first one that caught my eye. (Take a guess on which one that is :P) I think 12 kHz is a bit of a stretch. The 200-800 Hz range should work just fine. On a side note, there's a lot more 'machine bass' (basically insomniacovrlrd's description of the pulses) than there is wub. Overall, it sounds interesting.
2 Poryons: It kind of sounds like it's trying to be atmospheric and non-atmospheric at the same time. It's non-atmospheric most of the time, though.
Worth Nothing: I really started getting into this at frame 09. As insomniacovrlrd mentioned, the triangle vibrato part that kicks in shortly after is also a nice touch.
Naked Snow Angels: The intro sounds like it was inspired by Dropzone. I like that! Those were some nice arps at frame 0D. Nice job on this!
Get Your Mind Out of the Guitar: Great instrumentation and composition!
I guess I'll turn this into a dump thread, as seems to have become common 'round here.
Two things, one of decent quality yet boring, and one of poor quality and still boring.
R-r-rage was something that I put like two hours into out of boredom and with no goals in mind; it's a spattering of unfinished ideas that lack all polish. Regardless, I may actually string it into a proper piece of music one day, so I guess I'm posting this to know what some of y'all'd suggest.
Temperamental Llamas was the one I put some time into, and I'd like to know what you guys think about it. It's nothing particularly unique nor interesting, and, like the first one, still lacks some polish, but I feel comfortable enough with it as is to call it mostly finished. Any advice for developing it more than it already is?
Anyway, that's all I've got to say. Thanks for contributing.
I can't take any credit for any of the impressive instrumentation, though; the majority of the N163 instruments were taken from other people. The instruments in the FTM attached, as well. Thanks to those whose instruments I've been using--they're great.
Anyway, of the new modules I put together today, one's based pretty heavily on a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon theme, and the other's just something I whipped up out of boredom. I'm liking them both as is (though the closing to Sprog could use something a bit more substantial), but, as usual, comments and criticisms are wholeheartedly welcomed.
