Hello again!
It's been a while since I've put up any of my own work on here, which is mostly because I've been working on this project. When I did my first track in VRC7 I was so inspired that I immediately produced a few great tracks with it, and since then I've been making some great stuff a lot more regularly than usual. I've now decided to merge it with a unfinished project (some shooter-style music in Pxtone Collage) to make a full album "R-Self," which is a play on "R-Type" and the nonsense word "ourself."
I'm still working on polishing it and finishing up some of the Pxtone tracks, and I wanted some feedback from the forum folks before I released it. I've only included the Famitracker tracks here - if you're interested you'll be able to hear the Pxtone tracks when it gets released.
The instruments are going to look pretty redundant because the ftms here are merged copies of a bunch of separate ftms. That's also the reason it's in two parts - I hit the instrument limit while merging them.
Anyway, hope you enjoy, and I'd love some feedback.

I like some of these tracks, especially the ones on the first FTM. The sound design on the first track in that file is a mess though.
I think you should really consider working a lot more on sound design. I mean, you should especially turn down the volume on the VRC7 channels, since they're really loud and the 2A03 channels can't always be heard clearly. Having them below C or D should make the rest more listenable.
The tracks are great though, I really love the mood on some of them. They just need some polishing. ;)

Thanks! This is something that I was thinking about myself, actually. There are some tracks where the 2a03 tracks are supposed to be sort of faint background tracks, but in others where they carry the melody I'll probably take your advice and turn the rest down a bit. I was concerned they'd sound quieter compared to some other songs, but I could just turn hardware volume up while exporting those, I guess.

I already know how much you like your FM synths, Jax.
But they can be pretty loud in FamiTracker.
That being said, I thought were some interesting tracks in there.
I liked Break Off the most, but bossa nova usually gets me, so hey.
Tomato Sauce was pretty cool too, some fusion stuff. Percussion could be louder though.
Next time though, if you decide to have multiple songs in one ftm,
I do hope you'll create them together rather than importing them.
I'm sure you already figured that out though. It can get quite messy otherwise.
only listened to the first 5 tracks and man is this collection a keeper! Great wok jax. clean, simple, yet such characteristic and lovable work. inspiration!
Thanks again! It means a lot coming from people who have been around here a lot longer than I have.
I should be able to make the percussion a bit more audible by bringing down the VRC7 tracks in a few songs, which is what I'm working on right now.
I'm also looking into doing percussion with custom VRC7 patches, which is something I saw for the first time recently and was pretty impressed with. Probably not for this project, but eventually.
