Nothing quite rocked your 16-bit RPG world quite like when that giant enemy crab monster drops in on your party accompanied by this killer boss music, right? Unless of course you can do it in half the bits
So I'm almost done working on this one, actually, there're mostly just a few tweaks to the bassline and percussion left to do.
Song #1 is current, song #2 is an older version of the same tune. (Their revisions are slightly out of sync with each other, so you know.)

Wow, good cover indeed.
I like the noise Tambourine. The problem I have with most P-Noise - instruments is that they get annoying really fast. This one manages to be very subtle and doesn't stress any ears
Also, the thing I find most important about covers is "Would it sound like this in a real game made back then"? Some chiptunes pull off some kind of crazy sh!t or are just overdoing it with effects and overboarding arps in a way no one would do in a real game.
So, I'm happy to say that - in my opinion - your version might very well be a "real" one

Maybe it's because the times it uses P-noise (is that an actual term?) coincide with low spots in the volume curve. Or maybe because it's note F which is so high pitched it doesn't sound buzzy. I definitely agree that P-noise can get annoying very quickly, almost to the point of "why did they even include this feature in the first place?" but there are certainly occasions where it is useful and can be utilized as a song instrument (Quick Man's stage theme is the only one I know for sure to do that).

I hear ya, I basically dove into FT with effectively zero experience in chiptunes (or even trackers in general) and just started figuring things out as I went along. I learn fast
(I also kinda just hate arps.)

As in stereo panning? Since the NES doesn't do any stereo, whenever I record a song for chiptune reference I do it in mono so that it doesn't distract me.
