Spot on.
I'd like to see someone extend this sometime, because the 16-bit part comes in kinda abruptly, and that last measure is my favorite part. I might try to add some stuff on to the end myself, if you're alright with that.

I have an old WIP cover of this of my own that does go into the 16-bit part (not particularly well, IMO; that's one reason I never finished it). I've attached it.
And yeah, I went with a different sound for the 8-bit part instead of doing a straight cover, since that's too easy and has been done to death.
