I think I need some help with this one-- the percussion track's just off to me. I dunno. I can't figure out why. It's pretty silent in the original song, so that probably has something to do with it.
If you can help me find out what's missing, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.
Note: the file named ng3act2.ftm is the file I originally posted. The updated version is ng3act2redone.ftm.
You've got a lot of noise going on when there shouldn't be. There's a lot of hihats on accented beats in the original where yours is playing straight through. Bass and Melody sound great, but if you want to get the noise/drums accurate, try sampling them while they're solo'd from the original NSF. That should help you obtain the accuracy you're striving for. If you don't have an NSF player that can solo channels, pick up something like "NotSo FatSo".. you can mute channels with that plugin, but to hear anything you have to lower the amplitude of the DPCM because the DC Bias for the waveform coming out of that plugin is not centered. Strange huh?
Before, I was just using the audio from a YouTube video set to high quality to determine the notes and whatnot, haha. I wasn't exactly aware that methods like the one you listed were possible.
I downloaded the Ninja Gaiden III NSFs and used it with the VirtuaNES emulator, and I was off quite a few areas. Fixed up the song, added the proper DPCM samples. Thanks for the help, tssf.
I like this remake, along with what tssf said you can control the volume of the DPCM channel with the Zxx function (delta counter). In the original NSF the snare setting is 15 (out of 127 being full volume) while the bass drum is set at full. I edited your FTM slighty to give the correct settings and ripped some of the drums. Also, the noise channel in the original has a setting like this "11 8 5 2 0." I made that change as well. I use NSFPlug in winamp to look at all of the settings whenever I do a remake to make it as accurate as possible. Also, the first part of the song the square channel is 75 not 25. I can't personally hear the difference but I know for phasing in certain situations the settings makes a difference.
I fixed that in the redo that I posted. I posted the redo twice, with two slightly different revisions, so it's not your fault if you didn't see the fix.
Thanks anyways.
Also, thanks Tallboyy for the revisions. I noticed the DPCM in the original was kind of piercing, but didn't know how to replicate it.
