Not much Xenogears love around these parts, at least from what I've seen. The Chrono Trigger stuff is arguably his best music, but I don't consider Mitsuda's work on this game to be inferior in any sense.
Anyhow, the song is a nice little ditty; in fact, all the sunny, pastoral stuff in this soundtrack really stands out to me.
Thanks guys! I was definitely waxing nostalgic when struck with the idea to do this one. Attempted a few unsuccessful Chrono Trigger covers when I first started with Famitracker so I kinda gave up on that sphere of VGM, but I always wanted to go back to Mitsuda and do something decent. And this piece seemed to fit the way I muck about in the tracking console pretty well, so yeah.
I agree, this is great. Maybe I should play this game sometime.

Wow, this is the most positive response I've gotten in recent memory. Thanks a bunch, everyone!

Absolutely. If you can somehow find patience enough in your heart to play through an old JRPG in this day and age, Xenogears should be pretty high on the priority list. It has its share of divisive storyline and gameplay elements, but on the whole it's quite good (and the music is of course excellent, not divisive in the slightest).
I'll be sure to check it out, sounds interesting. Also, I think I've seen this game being really praised somewhere along the internet, so that may be another reason to play it.
I like fun games :D

That's a wonderful melody to listen to. A job well done.

Haha, something praiseworthy was rightfully praised... on the Internet? THAT'S something you don't see every day! :-)

It is wonderful! Mitsuda's got to be one of the best melodists in his field, if not the best. I'm most drawn to the first section with the alternating time signature; the occasional "missing step" in the music is surprisingly organic, gives it an irregular lilt that just works somehow.
