I've had too many IRL happenings over the past few months. Now that my agenda has become a lot less hectic, I should start making music again...
I created this thread as a response of sort to Ozzy's cover of Bionic Commando; this time around I did this cover from Follin's conversion of Stage 1 - AKA Danger! Keep out! - for home computers. You can hear that I used the C64, Spectrum and Amiga versions as guidelines for this cover; thus making this cover look somewhat like a patchwork of sorts.
The first ~25 seconds of the arrangement is a direct conversion of the arcade original, then becomes something else entirely - not that I mind anyway, since "latino" music is a bit out of place for a game with "Commando" in the title...
Let's hear it from the guy himself in the STIL database:
It's an arcade conversion... or lets say it started like an arcade conversion! What happened was, I started converting the titletune, and it just developed, slipped out of my grip and became something, what was very different from what I had in mind, at the beginning. Quite messy!"
Keep in mind that this was made over a year ago and has been shelved since (save for proofreading and a few minor corrections), so expect a few oversights, approximations and inaccuracies here and there.
Huh. I'm not too familiar with the home computer conversions these tunes, but damned if it doesn't go nuts after the first strain. The style of the original definitely feels a bit out of place, though I get the impression that the game itself wasn't as consistently "serious" in tone.
Sounds pretty good. There's a small error in 2A03 Pulse 2 when it loops back; the 2xx pitch slide command from the end is still active, so frame 05 the second time around is all pitch-slidey on that channel when it shouldn't be. ;-)
Also, good to see another ancient Bionic-Commando-related cover emerge from the woodwork. Judging from the reception I'd venture to guess that nobody else around here has anything like this lying around gathering dust, haha.
