Working on something else presently, but in the meantime here's another older cover from like a year and a half ago, back when I just started.
This is Stage 2 from the original arcade iteration of Bionic Commando, better known for being one of two tracks in the game that was adapted for the NES version (in which it became the reasonably well-known "Area 1" music). The NES arrangement basically cuts out the second half of this one and has less counterpoint because of hardware limitations.
The cover's got sound design and volume balancing problems, looking back. Actually might be one of the few old things I want to go back and fix up; I think it's a good fit for VRC6.
Thanks; I guess it turned out okay, though I think it needs some polishing.
It's always been interesting to me because I personally think the original is a bit too long-winded for its own good and the NES version is just right, but I can't tell whether or not that's because I heard the NES one first and was imprinted too hard by it.

I share this opinion. Also, the snares in the original sound more like thumps than snares, which is off-putting to me for some reason.
In any case, this cover is pretty well done, though I think VRC6 pulse 1 could be enhancing the snares better than it currently is.
Yeah, the snare drums are emphasis on the "drums" part of the sound. I think I didn't like it much back then since I chose to do the drums more like they were in the NES version.
Moving the pulse snare to triangle would certainly sound a lot more like the thumping in the original (and would also be less of a total waste of such a valuable, versatile channel as VRC6 pulse).
