Sunsoft-styled pitch or one for every semitone?

The problem with samples is that they can only be for like a second long at the most(without killing the quality). It's not get for long notes and the sound quality is horrible with high notes.

I'm pretty sure that usage of DPCM as a third Pulse or whatnot wasn't that popular in NES games, as it would take up all the spaces, so I'll be okay with just the channels given. Takes away some of the challenge if I'm able to use every note in the song :p

If you think like that when making music, you'll be seriously cripple your talent

I'd use the extra channels if I was using an expansion chip, but I'm currently trying to make faithful 2a03 remakes, and I quite enjoy the challenge of juggling everything.

UGH.

I've found a new hatred for Gestation. You cannot cover this song whatsoever, it only works with the Cave Story soundfont. It might work with high quality Namco instruments, but you'd probably need a bajillion different channels.

If someone can make it sound like something that isn't death please let me know ASAP.

Now, I'm going to go and cover something fun that has less channels to vent my frustration.

I'll try and do a cover 2a03 only, not sure how well it will turn out. Probably worse than yours, but we'll see.

One general question though - are arpeggios allowed in this soundtrack? "Eurostlye" or "single channel - single note" only?

Arpeggios...

I'm currently allowing myself minor ones (like the triangle bass in Helling Run) but I'm not too keen on the major arpeggios, like trying to fit all 3 bass channels onto the triangle in Frustration.

Okay, I already made an improvement without touching the actual melody.
The background on Pulse 1 constattly changes the duty cycle. I hope this helps a little

I'll look more into it later, I'm sure I can at least help improve the sound.

I was planning on this being a personal project, so I won't include it, but I like what you've done with it! I've kept your edits to Frustration and added more credits and stuffs.

Also, another reason why I won't include it is because I kinda already did it :p

Which song was "Gestation" exactly?

I'm giving the FTM a browse right now and the first reaction I have is that Mimiga Village should probably be speed 08 not 09. Obviously a few notes here and there don't sync up with how I personally remember them (in particular, the tremelos in Moonsong sound too strong), but I'm loath to make any edits yet -- currently working on my own tunes (on which tangent - I finally get how to do that neat single-channel echoing effect now).

Of course, it's your project

... although I really think my version is closer to the original ... ^^

But I seriously think a V01 is closer to the original sound of the bassline than the V02 you used.
