I've visited these forums for a while, but never posted anything (until now).
This is a very simple tune I wrote a while ago. It's a cover for the bg music of the deku palace in Majora's Mask. I feel like it might be lacking complexity, so recently I've been trying to add more.
I feel like it has too much repetition of the main motif to be a song to play as background for a stage--it would definitely get annoying. You might want to consider changing keys for progression and creating general interest for the piece. As of now, I feel like even the least music-savvy of listeners would be able to catch on to your song's melodies in only one or two loops.
Check out this edit I did and you'll probably get a jist of what I think.
For the most part, I like the idea, you just have to keep in mind a few things like: balance in composition, dynamic volume control, reasonable volume levels, special rhythms that could be accentuated, and interesting variation of recurring themes in your song.
you may want to be more descriptive than "tune i wrote". it's a cover of a tune from majora's mask. the notes are all there but it's not very interesting to listen to. try to add more variety.
Personally I'd probably switch the duty settings between instruments 03 and 06.
And it is amazing how sometimes a short tune works in the actual game ([url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCl-1oUHhMs]e.g.), but when you separate it and listen to the tune by itself ([url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f72iBfWWqlE]e.g.) suddenly it sounds boring and repetitive.

I'm afraid that the lack in complexity is in the original. There's not much else you can do beside choose a different song.

Yeah, and expectations between BGM and standalone music are different to begin with, too. For example, the Wily boss music in Mega Man 3 was awesome ... and also short. Which didn't matter at all while you were kept busy dodging Yellow Devil's pieces left and right, but when you're sitting down listening to the track by itself....
