This is my first OST (for a game that doesn't exist :P). The songs are mostly original (which means mostly decent) and some are remixes of other songs from different Mega Man games. Probably my least favorite is Song #7, and my favorite is Song #18 (not giving away song names; get the FTM for those). I needed to tune up a lot of things because I made this when I was more of a beginner.

Anyways, enjoy! (Or not, whatever...)

#18 is the one that caught my attention the most. I hear Mega Man influences in some of these songs, but I don't think they'd work in a MM game.

However, I can safely say that you knew what you were doing with these songs (for the most part). Some effects are really nice, and if you work a bit more on some songs, you could get a very amazing result.

So yeah, good job. As I said, I don't think they'd work on a MM game at all, but as stand-alone songs, some of these are good.

[I didn't like every single one actually, but that might be because laptop speakers are amazing and they can't play triangle waves properly but they boost noise incredibly] :D

This isn't Mega Man at all...

However, some instruments are interesting, which gives your songs a little more spice. I like that.

The biggest problem that I have with this soundtrack is that none of the songs sticks in my head. You have proven that you can do a lot of crazy stuff, but if the composition isn't good, then there's no reason for me to keep listening to these. I'm sorry but this is how I think.

So, my advice is very simple.
You should listen to Mega Man music, A LOT! If you do that, you'll probably get a basic understanding of how most Mega Man songs are structured. Don't get me wrong, adding your own touch to the songs is never a bad thing, but at the same time, you can't do exactly anything with your songs and call them Mega Man styled.

Pretty interesting, these tunes. [size=0]Definitely not Mega Man, though.

This is fantastic as a standalone OST. You're very talented with Famitracker. Personally I don't get much of a Mega Man vibe from these songs, but like I said this is a great NES soundtrack. I can see it playing in the background of some kind of adventure game. "Sad man's" theme could be like a cave or something. Good job, I'm sure you worked very hard on these songs.

After listening to a bunch of these, a common trend I find is that a lot of these are simply too short. Most of them feel like only half a tune, if even that, in a way like saying that a song has a verse but no chorus to follow it up before it repeats. The one labeled as the Robot Master battle, in particular, just repeats the same one pattern over and over (which might have been acceptable back in Mega Man 1, but that was then) when it simply needs more meat.

Structurally speaking, in many songs you can break a verse (or chorus) down into four measures and often in the order of A,B,A,D (it would almost be A,B,A,B except for how the second/fourth measures end/transition to the next measure).

I like the timbre on some of the melodies, though -- the echoing Pulse channels in particular have a nice sound to them. Unfortunately this costs you the ability to include an accompaniment track between the melody and bass tracks (without expansion chips, at least), and that's a definite a strike against some of the songs.

(For comparison, I'm working on a cover for a song where the climax of the song is played by a duet of flute and violin at different octaves, and I'm currently working out how to do this. If I play only the high octave then it's too shrill; if I play the low octave then it's too quiet. If I give it an arpeggio strike then it sounds off (and don't even think about an arpeggio loop). If I just have dual channels then that's the sound I want but I lose a channel for accompaniment, and I don't want that. So I'm currently working on having one of the tracks alternate between both melody and accompaniment, which is a little tricky.)

#10 ... Rockman is done now!

Joke aside, really solid chiptune - it just doesn't quite have the "Capcom"-Feeling to it. I can't quite put my finger on it, but Megaman-OSTs always had some kind of special sound.
My favourite songs are ALWAYS the fortress/castle stages, but for these castles ... they don't quite sound right.
Especcialy the final boss tune is too "all-over-the-place". I would suggest a slower lead while keeping a fast bassline and percussion, though I don't have much experience composing music.

Generally speaking, I also think that Megaman uses less slides and pitches (except for Triangle Toms).

If you want the pure essence what makes Megaman sound "Megaman", I'd analyse the music of the very first game.

But despite evrything, you're a good composer and I very much enjoy the music itself
