For my second project in FamiTracker I tried to emulate some real life sounds. Seagulls, waves, wind, and the fog horn and engine of a large vessel. Then I tried to combine that with a song. What do you think?
Critique is welcome. I'm aware that it is a little bit short, so I might flesh it out a bit.
What is your advice on the emulated sounds? Are there better ways to do them?
What do you think of the more straight forward song part?
Oh man, this sound design is absolutely wonderful, the first few chords sound a little weird to me, but they seem to be that way intentionally. Great work man, hard to believe this is your second Famitracker project!
This sounds epic! Extremely weird at times, but epic! Those first chords, as mentioned by TEHMEGAMASTAH, are a bit a weird, but it's still an excellent idea, and very well executed. However, it is a bit discordant at times, and that tri bass can get a little annoying, seeing as how it's so low, that both the notes are the same. At least, the first part's like this. I also think that the intro is a bit long, compared to the shortness of the song as a whole.
Some other places I've tried to conquer:

Hahah, wow, those pulses really sound like seagulls! Overall, this is very nice and the sound effects really sound like what you intended them to sound like.

About the dissonant chords in the first part of the song. The idea was to use the same kind of dissonance that is present in the fog horn effect in the intro. The fog horn is basically an octave+third where the third is right between minor and major. That's the interval used by the ships at the harbor where I live, so that's why I used it, and I think it sounds pretty authentic. A clean third wouldn't. So in the following chords I use the same kind of dissonant minor-major thirds in the second voice. I get that it's a bit hard on the ears, but I like it
The other reason is that I recently played Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis, and there is a load of dissonant (false) voices in the music of that game, and by being exposed to it I really started to like it!
If you wish to hear how it would sound without the dissonances I included a clean version with this message. I think it loses a lot of it's appeal though.
@TEHMEGAMASTAH: Thank you! It is my second project in FamiTracker, but I have done lots of composing before for bands and orchestras and stuff, so I think that helps. You can see my first project in SOYW too, search for Nica's Dream.
@CheeseGuy99: Thanks! Yes, the intro takes up almost half the track right now. I think I'm going to make the song part longer instead though, instead of shortening the intro.
@Dr_Mustache: Thank you so much! I like the challenge of trying to emulate "non-musical" sounds with such basic instruments. It really forces you to listen closely to what you are trying to emulate, to understand what components a sound really has. Using a sample would feel like cheating :P
