Square's latest RPG on the 3DS has an awesome soundtrack, and I'm using FamiTracker to create chiptunes based on it. I'm actually alternating between several of them depending on the whims of the muse, but I've basically finished some songs by now:
Standard battle music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0N08NkUJtv8
- (original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grZA2ZrAdTU )
Special move music (Tiz's special): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJvLVwYBSX0
- (original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCa17qVOTNM )
I've chosen to compose them without using the Noise or DPCM channels any as an homage to NES Final Fantasy 1 (whose iconic soundtrack was composed without using Noise instruments).
Though as much as I want to say what other specific tunes from this game I'm working on, I don't want to ruin the surprise.

I did not realize posting the .FTM was a rule? (I made sure to check the rules thread -- it does not specify.)
Well, in that case, here's the Ba'al theme music at least (original). It's the version I uploaded to YT (not my main workfile of it, because I haven't officially finished it yet; the song makes a second lap with different accompaniments before it truly loops), but I can post that when I actually have updates to post.
he meant please
Ah. Because when somebody says "or else" that's usually taken as a warning or a threat, not a friendly request.
at frame 00 I went "whild nintendo 3ds appeared!"
Yeah, I guess it does sound kind of Pokemon-like, but the song really does start with a bang.
maybe try some more volume work, or some differing instruments for variety.
There is one segment of the song (around pattern 20 or so) where I can clearly identify four parts to the original (guitar, strings, vocals, bass), but I only get to use three. Those kinds of decisions are 'fun' to make (but part of it is good fun).
Of course, not everything I'm currently working on is from Bravely Default -- here's an arrangement of a song every RPG fan knows (also done with no noise/percussion):

Another inspiring RPG tune is from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky -- "Dialga's Fight to the Finish". It's not a fast-paced, rockin' tune like you'd find in the main series (i.e. Champion/evil team boss battles), but a slower, melancholy affair heavy with leitmotif (the Time Gear theme specifically). It's a beautiful, emotional piece with a big "thank you for playing" written all over it even before the credits roll. (And by the time the credits are rolling, you'll probably need a box of tissues -- the ending is that worth crying over.)
And I'll probably have to add an expansion chip so I can properly squeeze in all the parts. (But I refuse to dual-channel the parts unless absolutely necessary, because then it starts to lose that pure 2A03 flavor.)
