Hello my i'm RedScarf and i'm a novice to making 8-bit music, but I've finally "finished" and song and would like feedback. Also if you want you can re edit it to show where it can be better, or just completely revamp it! Many Thanks!

Idk I had fun with it. Definitely needing some more fill on some of the more intense parts, so I added some stuff there and made the progression more quirky. ;) Also a surprise.

Fun song. Good luck with fully finishing it, it definitely has potential! <3

This probably sounds strange in 0.4.3 - best used with 0.4.2.

Pitch-slides are a little off in the NSF export for some reason.

Wow this one really brought out the original progression and made it much more clear. Job well done, puts mine to shame! ;n;

I think you might have pressed Insert accidentally in pattern 01 of Pulse 1. Everything from the first F-3 onwards is one line too low. You can fix this by moving the cursor onto that note and pressing backspace.

Another small thing: Bxx and Dxx usually go on the row that precedes the next beat. In your case, you want to move it up from row 0x20 to row 0x1F of the last pattern.

Other than that this is pretty damn good for an early attempt. Keep making more!

Hello and welcome Redscarf !
Cool song, definitely need some more frames : )
Feel like playing with a band with this.

See you around

@ Necrophageon : that revamp... wow......how did you manage to get all that reverb for the overall sound ?
I get the MMC5pulse 2 echo wich really add depth...AND the tremendous work on the volume on each channels...but still, do you have a specific way to work that you apply on every song ? or is it..i don't know..man..

It reminds me of that "Test plus" song

RedScarf - I really enjoyed this track, and for some reason couldn't help myself but play with it. :3 Love the progression, and I find myself a fan of your phrasing.

That said, some feedback would probably be more useful:

- Almost all of what's in the revamp is already in the song - I tried to change as little as possible structurally/musically.

- The timing on some of the notes in frames 01 and 02 is really loose. I tightened it up a bit and added some [url=http://www.famitracker.com/wiki/index.php?title=Gxx]Gxx commands to approximate triplets in a few parts, but some of my decisions were totally arbitrary. *EDIT* - Silly me. Mr. Lepage spotted the underlying issue and I totally missed it. XD

- The tempo in the original was 176, which was close enough to 180 to justify moving the Speed to 5 and Tempo back to 150. This gets you 180 BPM and avoids weird timing issues associated with straying from '150' in the Tempo setting (though the song IS slightly faster).

- I really liked how the second bass was doing it's on thing, but I was having trouble bridging gaps and being consistent with the sound overall and decided it would be easier to just mirror the existing bass track.

- You had some triangle kicks set up, so I put those to use and added a snare. A fixed arpeggio was used since FamiTracker will return to the original note played after running through the arp envelope (note that this is bugged in 0.4.3, but works in 0.4.2). In this way, kicks and snares can be woven in with the regular bass notes. I left the noise track exactly as-is except for I think one fill that I added and for the most part just tried to match the triangle drums to that.

- Always try to think of ways to make use of your empty space. Of course there will be cases where you only want a few channels playing, but often times just using a channel that would otherwise remain empty for an echo or something can go a long way in terms of overall sound and atmosphere.

- Your echo channel was good, but I moved it down another row and made it a little louder to try and give it more depth. The [url=http://www.famitracker.com/wiki/index.php?title=Pxx]Pxx commands fine-tune the pitch to better separate the waveforms and create the illusion of distance/depth. Just be careful when playing with Pxx in high pitch ranges as the de-tuning effect tends to be more dramatic the higher the pitch.

- The extra notes in the melodies and throughout the track (like MMC5 Pulse 2) are just fluff. It's a [url=http://www.famitracker.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_make_echo]technique that's pretty handy, but not necessary. Just another way to squeeze a bit more sound out of limited space.

This is a relatively ambitious track for a newcomer, and I really dig it. Track on!

heyjoe07 - Not sure if I answered your question in there, but I approach polishing tracks pretty much the same way every time.

I can't tell you how much i've benefited from your answer and that revamp... it's clarifying a lot of things on how to approach the tracker.

So ...Thanks to you and the composer who started this : )
