Hello

I continue my long journey with the tracker.
Under recent advices, i tried the MMC5 and worked on the volume parameter,0xx,and Vxx.And still don't know how to do a proper crescendo because on the 1st frame it's giving me some cracking sounds as it goes up in volume..ohhh,the headaches : )

I must be forgetting effects somewhere but i 'm stuck with the sound that the NSF file is giving me and the sound with the tracker. It seems that it's mixing everything in a way i'm trying to figure out...

So i wrote a short song for let's say an animated title screen for a game with swords, ghosts, bats, skeletons, witches Oh and i forgot... rats and mummies : ) or whatever.

Hope it's not too bad. Thanks for your critics and/or advices if you have any.

It's not bad, but it lacks a bit more volume balance. :P

In the first frame, try using a blank instrument (an instrument with no envelopes, just as it appears when you first create it). Maybe that'll help.

About the volume, it's too loud. Mix everything a little quieter and try to make everything hearable, as I said last time. Remember that mixing the volume appropriately is the most important thing when composing (among other factors).

However, I can still say this has a nice mood. :D
Also, you're making good use of effects.

EDIT: I take back what I said, you're getting better at volume control, keep practicing!

I suggest you always have a blank instrument in your modules, they might come in handy!

My laptop speakers were too loud, not your song, and I didn't notice while I was listening. Don't worry about it, maybe the volume advice will be useful to someone else who reads it, but you really improved your volume balance since the last time you posted a song. :D

Oh ok
Thanks again for the advice, didn't know it could be so useful. So if i get it right, you can actually make good stuff with leaving the instrument blank and work with the effects only...so much to learn..
By the way i listened to some of your stuff and it's great,(kirby 64 cover !)

Awww, thank you.

The ultimate advantage of blank instruments is precisely what you said, you can control everything with effects and you're not limited by any instrument envelope.

For instance, most of my music relies heavily on blank instruments, but that's just preference. One advantage of instruments is that you can reuse the same sequences without writing them again. Also, the pattern editor looks cleaner.

It's good!
My only question is why did you use an A02 on the triangle channel at the end. That fades out, and triangle has no usable volume. Why?

As for 'it's too loud', i personally think it's alright. I see a lot of 4's, 7's and 5's, and that's all totally fine. You have the second frame, pulse...4? i'll call it pulse4. You have that at A, but even then that's fine unless you've got some really odd DPCM samples which screw with the volume of triangle and such, and you don't.

I think, all around it's a nice track, bro.

Yeah, I think it's a bit too loud, personally, but the composition itself is really good! Occasionally, it kinda seems like WTC IS GOING ON, but other than that, great work on your first MMC5 attempt!

Hello,
Thanks !
i tought about a "title screen" so there's always a silence i've noticed before the music starts again in most of the games, so i used an A02 in order to have that silence with the triangle exactly out at the same time as the 0 value in the volume column of all the other instruments.
like WTC IS GOING ON
Hello, thanks for your words.
what "WTC" means, i'm french so i don't get this kind of stuff, but i do use and know WTF
