Gotta love how much richer arps sound at 50 Hz. Great work!
Note to self. Fuck 0xy. Downward arps are the way to go
This made me laugh for a while.
By the way, I think it sounds better 60Hz but that's just me.

The reason why I prefer 50 Hz arps is that since the refresh rate is 20% slower, each note of the arp lasts 20% longer, which results in a richer-sounding arp. It's a subtle difference, but it leads to a better overall sound design quality. That's why I'm a big fan of arps in C64 music (whose scene was always predominantly European), for instance, but not so much when it comes to NES music (most of which comes from North America and Japan - and even when it doesn't, most people default to making NTSC tunes anyway).

That was me posting that it sounds better in 60Hz, haha. But I suppose that is a valid reason. My personal reason being that I don't use 0xy often anyway. I'll keep this in mind when I try using different engine rates.

The thing about 60 Hz (or 60.09 Hz if you want to be pedantic) is that it gives you more flexibility: you get to stuff 20% more events inside the same window of time - in other words, you're given 60 opportunities to update the audio engine per second as opposed to just 50. However, the fact the 2A07's APU updates 50 times a second results in richer maximum-speed arps. It's what one might call a positive side-effect to a (arguably) negative limitation.
I too prefer to work using the NTSC refresh rate for this reason (and also because my TNS-HFC3 cannot play NSFs at any other refresh rate :p), but I can definitely appreciate crafty 50 Hz arps.
