I imagine this is already a known issue, but I thought I should mention it: I just lost a lengthy post when I tried to attach a file, apparently because my session expired. I clicked "back" and the post wasn't there, either; it just disappeared. I haven't had this sort of problem on other forums in a long time; when the session expires, I still have my text. (I'm using Firefox 3.5, if the browser makes any difference.)

Also, unrelated, but a bit annoying: how come middle-clicking the links on the forum sidebar doesn't work? It doesn't open new tabs or indeed do anything at all.

If you're using Firefox, you should pick up the plugin "Lazarus".. It records every form and text box so if you do lose everything, all you do is right-click and you can recover it easily.

OK, I've installed it. Thanks!

But still, things like Lazarus should be a last line of defense; there should still be safeguards in the forum software to prevent this.

because this is pretty common on messageboards, i write larger posts in notepad first, then copy & paste.

I agree, software shouldn't cause people to want to rip the remaining hair out of their head. But sometimes it does, so it's always best to protect yourself. Copy / Paste is good too, but say the power goes out mid-700 word reply? ..Yeah. (That has happened to me before) ..Lazarus will at least save a portion of your text box and such. So yeah. :D

I also have a habit of doing this, except I often forget to do it. Also, the fact that no other forums I frequent have this problem anymore means it's all too easy to forget.

Also, in this particular case, the error happened when I clicked the upload button, not the submit button. I wasn't expecting it to be possible when I clicked the upload button (although I've probably had it happen before and just forgot about it >.>)

Ctrl+A,Ctrl+C before click on 'Send' button would help too. The only problem is that usually you recall about it after that click.

Yes, that's pretty much what we just discussed.

I've noticed this too, especially when not using the "auto-login" option when logging in (in which case I get logged out if I take too long writing a post).

I heard about Lazarus a few months ago, wish there'd been something like it a lot sooner.
