So I tried working with famitracker as far back as as 2012. I cursed the program for supposedly preventing me from using certain notes, and threw it away after a wasted hour. Then I started working with it again in November of 2013 and still thought I was missing notes. After throwing it away again after another wasted hour, in February of this year (2014) I finally realized that what I thought was a flaw in the program was in fact me being stupid. So, I got to work on some music with famitracker, because I've recently become somewhat interested in making music, but I haven't ever touched a single musical instrument and thought that what other people were making with famitracker was pretty cool.

I tried looking at 8bitdanooct1's tutorial, but I got lost in it, and dove straight into the program. "Endless Hope" is a direct result of that. I literally learned as I went, and I went slowly, taking a good 1.5 to 2.5 weeks to put it together. (I never truly finished what I wanted to do with it, however. I meant for it to be an entire remake of a song of the same name I made within Little Big Planet 2, but it didn't sound right, so I created a .wav out of what sounded good, uploaded that to YouTube. The first 2 pulse channels, triangle, and noise channel are what reflect the completed song. Frames I skipped over, and the extra pulse channels from MMC5 are unfinished, and for now I don't plan on finishing them.)

"The Ballad Of The Impoverished" is basically something I kinda rushed to put together, I don't remember much about creating it because I created it in 2 days, lol.

"Persisting Paranoia" took me quite a while because of getting the sound right with both Pulse 2 channels.

I just finished "Press Start" today, and it would've taken me as much as 2 weeks if I had done the same painstaking listening by ear process for every single note that accompanied the main notes for "Persisting Paranoia." I accidentally discovered some magic when messing with arpeggios, though, which led to instruments 0A and 0B in that work and a load of time saving.

So, here's all 4 of my works within Famitracker so far. You can also view a playlist of them all here on YouTube: [url=]https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPWyl7fty4VN_tw5b1Sase_PIyitXeKUj

Constructive criticism helps, they called it constructive because it helps people.

I listened to them all. They're all not bad, but i found the pulse stuff to be a bit too loud. Also i noticed you doubling notes up a ton. In Impoverished you had the fds doing the same thing as pulse1 a lot of the time. While that extra bass is nice, having the same notes happening at the same time seems like a waste of a channel to me. I don't know.

Unfortunately, i hardly know anything about music in a technical sense, so i'm certainly no authority on the subject. All your tracks were of decent length and varied enough to be listenable as standalone songs, which is good.

Oh, one last thing. in Press Start, you have an instrument called 'rockman chord', and all it does it drop the note 7 halftones down. You seem to know a bit about music, why make a whole instrument dedicated to dropping a pitch down when you could just put in the appropriate note yourself?

Well, I don't really know much about music, I just put some notes and go by ear so that they sound good. Endless Hope and The Ballad of the Impoverished were learning processes, so they didn't come out real pretty. The double note thing seems like something that's hampering the quality of the music; that's something to stray away from in future compositions. (Speaking of which, I may revisit Press Start and edit some of those double notes that go on, specifically some of the stuff in the 2nd Pulse 1 channel.)

The instrument you're talking about, instrument 0B, in Press Start was created solely for the purpose of time saving. Basically, I took stuff from the 1st Pulse 1 channel, put it into the 1st Pulse 2 channel, and changed the instrument used in the 1st Pulse 2 channel, and voila! Decent sounding chords in just minutes. (Hours of further editing not factored in that estimation.) (The same thing also applies to instruments 0A and 0D. I could've easily typed out the correct note in each row in each frame but opted to use an instrument instead.)

Thanks for the feedback.
