decided to cover this masterpiece. it's a cover of some of the songs from the old arcade game frogger. it uses only 2 of the 2a03 channels, as the original arcade game only used that number of channels from the ay-3-8910 sound chip. I'm pretty happy with this one. track list: 1-opening/policeman's dog, 2-araguma rascal, 3-barney, 4-dead/camptown races, 5-game over, 6-level completed/title screen from home versions, 6-random ingame song. Dun in 0.4.2. let me know what you think.

Well, you're on the right track, but there a couple of things that I feel like that need to be addressed.

First off, the tunes are quite far off from the arcade originals. The octaves and keys are off, and the harmonizing notes in a lot of places are incorrect, although the overall tune is quite close. Not sure if you were going for your own effort (in which case, the tunes are fine), or if you're shooting for the original. If you're shooting for the original, candidly I have to say there is much work to be done here.

Secondly, the instruments themselves. While it is true that Frogger and other arcade games based on that same hardware had very simplistic sound chips, you've softened the tones. The original arcade game used a permanently set duty cycle with a very basic square wave tone, and featured a more sharply-attacked sound (think something like a harp being plucked).

For a reference guide, I've posted my own effort at the Frogger tunes that I toyed with about a year ago or so. They're not 100% either, of course, which is why I didn't publish them then, but I feel like they might be useful for you to look over and may be of some help. The main theme isn't quite complete, and the timing has very slight variances from the originals, but they're fairly close to what you would hear out of the arcade machine back in the day.

As I said, you're on the right track. Please don't take my criticism as "poo-pooing" on your effort. I offer it as constructive advice in hopes it may be of help to you in your musical creation endeavors.

Is there a music rip of the Genesis version of Frogger?
