I just registered my account. I've written three original pieces in the NES style using famitracker. I used instruments from [url=http://famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=346]mega man and I borrowed some drum sounds from [url=http://famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=4711]Fezuke as well as made a few instruments of my own.
I sometimes have trouble getting the sounds I want out of famitracker and these pieces are not necessarily "finished" but I wanted to see what other people think of them. If some of the more experienced members have advice let me know. Hope you like my compositions!
The bass drum sound in Under Fire sounds really loud (the instrument itself is meant to be a snare?) and the percussion pattern doesn't change at all for the whole song. It's a little stale by the end.
The melody sounds kind of random at parts, though it does reach an OK conclusion in the last frame.
Your other two tunes are a lot better, though Hero's Resolve sounds like it goes on for too long, only to end fairly abruptly.
The first two were amazing but when hero's resolve plays from the first frame again the Triangle channel refuses to play. You must have set the volume column wrong (e.x. you put a zero and forgot to turn the Triangle back on at the start).
EDIT: Also the Volume on the Triangle channel is either on or off, meaning 15 or 0. The volume column (excluding F and 0) has no effect on the Triangle channel, thus it must be controlled using the Zxx command (this command affects how loud the Triangle and Noise channels are when DPCM is used).
Oh yeah, I forgot to put an F on the first line - I fixed that on my computer but I didn't upload the newer version. Thanks for letting me know and for the compliments!
Based on all feedback you have so far, Rockman's arrival is flawless (because no one pointed anything bad out yet, there's no reason to)
EDIT: You should upload the fixed version of Hero's Resolve along with a fixed version of underfire. I didn't notice anything bad about underfire but someone said the percussion in DPCM was too loud, but I didn't think so.
If you do ignore the triangle volume issue, it's exceptionally well-written for being on this site for less than 1 day. My first two .ftms were mediocre, but yours seemed to be better. When I made mine I relied too much on Pitch bend effects (1xx and 2xx, 1xx is up and 2xx is down).
EDIT: A little side note about your profile, you should upload an avatar. It's max. 100px x 100px, and if you have one you'll feel like you fit in more (at least that's how I felt).
EDIT 2: If you want to get better at this you can help me finish one of my .ftms if you want. I just posted a thread a little while ago if you want to check it out.
EDIT 3: Cool avatar. In case you haven't seen the thread I'll just bring it to you. Here's the attachment.
