I want to make an original song in Famitracker, but I couldn't think of an idea for just one expansion chip. I previously posted 2 of my first creations in the SOYW section of this forum, one using FDS sound and the other w/ MMC5 channels. Neither were great or bad, but this time I want to make something better. Should I do it, and if so how would I do it?

[url=http://famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=3326&pid=46928#46928]Here you go! You're welcome.

[In case you don't know, you must import these text files into FamiTracker. Go to "File > Import text" and choose the text file you wish to import. FamiTracker will enable the expansions for you, but you can't export to NSF since this feature is unfinished]

I was unable to use the file as I can't install WinRAR. Can you convert it to a ZIP folder?

There. Let me know if it works now.

It worked, thanks. I have no idea how you are such a genius with this stuff. My jaw won't lift off my laptop.

Hey, I'm not the one who made the pack, I just linked to it! It was OSMasterX the one who put that file together.

I think it's important to stress that this is absolutely, completely unsupported right now. You won't be able to get support from jsr if things go wrong, and you won't be able to export to NSF.

Furthermore, if you really want to toy around with multi-expansion, you might want to try out [url=http://www.mmlshare.com/]ppMCK instead. It's a free MML compiler that will let you create multi-expansion NSFs. MML may seem like an arcane art at first, but it's not that difficult.

I record (some) NSFs on hardware. Feel free to [url=http://www.famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=3633]request a hardware render.

Thanks jrlepage, but I don't really know how to work with NSFs. I'm only interested in the .ftm file, and if something goes wrong isn't that what this forum is for (partially)? Or am I mistaken?

Yes and no. What he said is that since the multi-chip feature is unsupported, in case anything goes wrong you can't get support. However, if you use everything else normally (as you would without "hacks" of this sort), then you can get help here. After all, that's what the forum is for, to get support for FamiTracker.

NSFs can be opened with an NES emulator or an NSF player like NSFPlay. I can't describe this format very well, but you can search around for information if you're interested.

I don't really see the point of using Famitracker if you're uninterested in making NSFs, but okay...

The novelty of being able to make music in a tracker more simplistic to pick up than most

I just want to make compositions in famitracker. I don't really know how to work with NSFs anyway.

Maybe we share the same approach, partially. Around 2012 I got interested in making "8-bit music" and then I found FamiTracker. Still, I got more interested about the way the NES works, so that also keeps me here, because I always learn new stuff.

You know, I like to know very well the hardware I'm composing for, at least in the sound part. That also helps a lot when composing, because you know the limitations you are facing.

If you are interested, try learning a lot about these topics so you can work around the limitations of the NES in FamiTracker. It sure gets useful when you get more skilled.
