I'm trying to get something similar to the leads from the leads in Turtles 3 for NES. I assume that it's usually two channels at the same time, but there's often a three at once, so I'm doubting that it's the case.

Can someone give me some help or point me in the right direction. You can d/l the songs here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/b8kqlq

TMNT3 does not use any extension chips, so there can't be more than two pulse channels at the same time. If it appears so, it's just illusion.

Well as far as leads go, are you trying to emulate the sound, or are you trying to remake an entire song? The TMNT games were made by Konami so you are looking at a few common traits among their musicians. For example, a lot of the leads have sounds that don't stick to a single wave shape. So if you are making an instrument under the pulse width setting you might have 0 1 (so the wave will hit 12.5% before sustaining at 25%). Konami musicians also use a lot of quick arpeggio jumps and 8th notes in their faster songs. This may be what you are hearing when you say it sounds like 3 different channels playing. I did a cover of Bloody Tears from Simon's Quest, look for it in the show off your work forums. Take a look at the instrument settings I have there. It's not perfect but you can look at a good example of what I mean.

Edit: I covered a song from the game so you can see how the parts work together to create the sound. It's not perfect but all the parts are in place to give you a clear example of how Konami sets up their songs.

Thanks Tallboy, that's really helpful. The sounds aren't quite what I'm looking for, but they're darn well close. Impressive cover, btw and thrown together so quickly.
